It definitely could be the whole whipsaw thing. No argument there. Maybe Delta wants to have a more "diverse" regional coverage in ATL? But then why would they close the ASA base in SLC? Either way, I think ASA should be growing in ATL. Just remember when our guys come out there, please give them the same respect we gave your crews in SLC. We pilots aren't the ones who choose where our company decides to open a base or what companies they purchase.

well thats the problem here, people on this thing blame each other not right people who make decisions, and they blame other pilots for working at a some company, instead of looking to do something as a group.
one guy came up with a great idea on another post once, nationwide strike sept 1 2007 until we all get a 5 $ raise an hour...all the commuters. imagine what that can do..

ASA will be dissolved as soon as the routes can be covered by "the portfolio"....that will take time, but ASA is losing about 4 planes/month. It will likely accelerate in the fall after the summer (peak) flying is no longer needed.
Do you have any source for your statement?

The "official" word is still that we are to recieve 1 CRJ200 and 2 CRJ700's later this year as soon as we have pilots to staff them.

Regardless, I really despise this whipsaw game where we are constantly under threat. I saw that SkyWest management was bragging about their relatively low turnover rate (for a regional) and talking about the airline being a CAREER airline. That is really good and I wish ASA had that philosophy.

SkyWest's 14 crews fits with the 11 CRJ900's in ATL. Remember these airplanes were part of ASA's firm order, were initially set up for ASA's Certificate and would have been operated by ASA if we had agreed to pay cuts that would have undermined those pilots at SkyWest and Comair.

Where are the efficiencies gained by closing SLC for ASA? This just makes it more obvious that Jerry will lie to your face. He said SLC was closing cause it didn't make sense to have both ASA and SKW flying out of there. But it's ok to open up an ATL base for SKY now?

I think it has more to do with flying the 900 than anything....if ASA flew the plane, skywest in ATL probably wouldn't make much sense. we don't fly the 50 there....

200/700/900.... who cares? It's just differences training! ASA pilots could easily fly those aircraft. We have our differences training down to 2 days... 1 day of ground and 1day of sim.

Per another Fins thread, I thought those airplanes were ordered [and financed] by DAL for their discretionary use [though the post was re: paint], not ordered by a ACMI carrier to do as they wished. Perhaps my interpretation of the 'other' thread is incorrect, but methinks not; seems like somebody is trying to have it both ways. Not that whipsaw is good by any means, but there is something to be said about diversification in a business strategy, though that line of thought seemed to go by the wayside in SLC (unless Mesa and ExpressJet come in to fill the missing ASA gap). WKWTF is going on; don't forget airlines don't normally run on Stakeholder Theory...

My guess is SKYW is doing the ATL 90 flying until ASA gets a 90 rate and finishes contract negotiations. Then the flying will probably be transferred back to ASA (which makes more sense).

I second the notion of pointing the finger at the actual decision makers and not the pilot groups. We didn't choose to fly out of ATL as you didn't choose to fly out of SLC. We are all doing what needs to be done to earn a bag of groceries.

Eric - A wag of the finger is deserved when one group secures an airplane from another group as a result of concessionary pay rates.

A tip of the hat is deserved when pilots are offered airplanes in exchange for concessions and choose to maintain the standards of their profession at their personal cost.

Skywest won't transfer the 900's back to ASA- it makes as much sense as moving the 70's to SkyWest. It's too expensive and isn't worth the cost. We lost out and missed the boat on the 900's. Our negotiated 900 rate is just a formallity.

This is completely inaccurate information. As of yet, we are still slated to receive additional aircraft...2 700s. The only reason those were delayed is because we are short handed...ie this time last year, we had approx 500 fo's on the crj2...for the bid cycle of may, we had 394...VERY SHORT HANDED. We will get caught up and as planned, should receive the 2 airplanes.

Not at ASA we dont. 4 days ground and 3 sims. The ground will be cut to 2 days whenever the FAA approves it.

Fins,

before SkyWest bought you, on whom did you blame all your problems at ASA?

Hey...more good news!
But hey on a side note....I got a great deal on my car insurance at Geico!:laugh:

And the LIES CONTINUE out of the mouth of JA. Yeah...makes no sense to keep ASA in SLC...blah...blah....blah and YET, POOF! Here they are in ATL. What a lying Sack Oh SH!T!!!

So much for the BIG FAT LIE that it is not cost effective to have two different groups in the same base!!! JA......YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A LIAR AND I WILL NEVER TRUST ANYTHING YOU EVER SAY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your lips are moving, you are lying! Why did you not just tell the truth about the closing of ASA's SLC base???

Things were never good at ASA, but they got worse after SkyWest bought us.

We actually had a growth plan (and a domicile in someplace other than ATL) before. Now our growth plan is: order airplanes, deliver them to SkyWest.

As to the commenter who said that this only affects the 900, for now, sure. If SkyWest, Inc. wanted to put the 900s at ASA there were provisions to do so. With the current management and union agreement of the need for a single 70-76 seat payscale it would have been an easy matter (even easier because the union and management are only 2% on the payrates per the last proposal). But we can't just reward the ASA pilots for not taking a paycut... it was a matter of whipsaw to put the airplanes at SkyWest. They gave our IPs something to do by generating a training course for the 900s, put out memos saying that we're going to receive some if not all of the 900s on order, and then at the last second they diverted everything to SkyWest. No problem, they said. "Delta wanted the planes in SLC." Except now the airplanes are in ATL.

I fully expect to see SkyWest 200s and 700s in ATL. The only issue is what to do with the ASA planes occupying their rightful gate space. Once they find another place to put us (hey, I got an idea, how about we deadhead 4 or 5 crews to CVG every flight like we're doing now), your ATL base will grow even more.

alpa will step in and help. Don't worry.

All the good little boys and girls at ASA just keep flying the aircraft giving SW time to take over. It was even nicer of all the ASA pilots to pick up open time for 1.5. Now there is none because they got caught up. That can help pay your bills when they fully take over.
