I think they were calling your friend to talk him into asking you to find an avatar chick with a less chunkier butt.

Skyway is keepin all the 1900's as of last week. The 'rumor' from management was we were losing 5 possibly all the 1900's. As soon as we inked the TA, we weren't gonna lose any aircraft. Good for the beech guys.
We also are pushing the ERJ program back 2 yrs, not cancelling it as reported by management a couple of weeks ago.

As for the recalls, expect them soon. We are losing guys left and right. Out of 190ish active pilots, I can think of at least 10 that are leaving soon or gonna die trying. We are already way short on pilots, cancelling occasionally for no Capts, ect....
Most guys seem to be leaving for: Citation Shares, AirTran, ATA, HomeDepot...

The @ss looks fine to me

Hey thunderchief...aside from the fact that that avatar chick"s ass is gonna expand to epic proportions after two kids and the big FOUR OH, did you know a guy named FISH that flew at skyways for many many years? He used to flight instruct at Executive Air in Green Bay, WI and in fact he was my instructor for a few lessons before I went on to 141 school to finish up.

TC, I guess you didn't go to any of the road shows. Skyway is in fact losing five 1900 effective Sept. 03.

Illini asked about projected growth. I am sorry to say that according to the five year business plan, there is no projected growth at skyway. We are slated to use 9 dorniers and 9 1900's (with one spare of each rotated through mx) for the next five years.

As for the embraers, the presidents exact words were "the orders have been deferred for two and a half years, at which time we will take delivery or cancel the order". Considering the fact that the five year business plan does not include emb's, what do you think is going to happen.

I believe that the recalls will happen due to the attrition rate, however, anyone recalled will sit reserve until a lot of pilots leave ahead of them.

The good news is that we have not filed for bk. Good luck to everyone.

Why are people leaving?

Tagging on to what StaySeated said,

Truth be told, you can say whatever you want (within reason) when the phone call comes. Contractually, and thanks to the new TA (someone who could actually vote back me up on this) the recall rights were extended to five years instead of two. So everyone in that unfortunate Sept. '01 class should be covered, and even if you tell the glorious management member who places the call that you'd rather drive a truck than come back to SYX, they still have to offer you the option of returning when the appropriate time comes.

I believe these phone calls are to try and gauge how many people, if any, they would need to hire in the event of a recall. I would _not_ put too much stock in it, e.g. I wouldn't say that because x person received a call that a recall was right around the corner.

As for growth, StaySeated said it best. Unless you live in MKE and don't mind reserve for the next umpteen years, what growth?

My own personal opinion, the only reason that SYX is even entertaining the notion of EVER getting ERJ's is because of the sizable down payment they had to place to make the orders firm - if it wasn't for that down payment, I think the a/c order would have cancelled LONG ago. I'm running out of fingers to count how many times the ERJ order has been deferred.

All that said, the pilots are fantastic, the training department is outstanding, and it's a shame that what I perceived as a "happy, midwestern airline" has taken such a negative turn, along with MidEx, as a result of the economy.

From the Chief Pilot's mouth:

"We got a great deal on the 1900 leases and we are keeping ALL of them."

Remember the 5 yr plan is for creditors, it has absolutely nothing to do with what will really happen. God only knows what that will be. We ARE keeping all five beeches....That was also in the road show, B squared included that fact....

And WrightAvia, I flew with Fish on many occasions and he is a good guy, he hasn't worked for us for at least a couple of yrs....
PM me if you wanna know more.

I've been wrong before so flame away if ya have the info.

Well, it's official. Skyway has started recalling more pilots. There will be a class of 10 pilots in a class starting Sept 8th.

The question now is, what do you guys/gals see for this class of newhires in the forseeable future? Do you think they will be sitting reserve for quite a while? What is first and second year FO pay? Average take home pay per month???

Would you be worried at all about being furloughed again? How is the airline doing financially???

Going back...

Congrats to those going back, first of all!

What you do will be totally dependent on whether they recall _more_ than that - if it's only 10, almost guaranteed most/all will be on reserve.

Without more recalls and lack of attrition, yes - reserve for a LONG time. A year or more.

Good grief - first year F.O. pay, if what I read is true (don't have the TA in front of me), in that F/O's took at .22 cent pay cut, that puts the hourly rate at $17.53/hr, 75 hr guarantee. There were work rule increases (block or better, cancellation pay, etc.) but the one thing I don't remember is hourly per diem or not. If you get hourly per diem, that will boost your paycheck by a good $200 - $300 per check, assuming that you have a line. On reserve, at least it'll make the 5am wake up calls a little easier to deal with. Someone who has the TA in front of them should answer that. Assuming the worst, though, no hourly PD - on reserve, after benefits and all were taken out, I _took home_ around $1100/month.

And as far as the future of the company...well, when they recalled the first time they said they waited so long because they didn't want to turn around and furlough the folks that they recalled, which they ended up doing nine months later anyways. Things appear to headed in the right direction but I'd be trolling for a better job the _entire_ time I was there, at least to have your options open. No way to go through life, but if they only plan on recalling 10, you will be at the bottom of the seniority list for a long time.

It _is_ a 121 job, though, and if you don't have to sell the farm and mortgage the kids to do it, have fun - the airplane is a great one to fly. I count myself lucky to have flown it!

Take care,
-brew3

Just curious if the returning pilots that were furloughed from the September class two years ago would be coming back as first year FOs, or does the time spent furloughed count for anything, and they come back as second year FOs?

Thanks!

Longevity

I don't think the time spent on furlough counts, unfortunately.

I know if you have a Leave of Absence, your longevity continues for one year then freezes. I don't have the old or new contract infront of me though....

The pay cuts haven't shown up yet, my recent paycheck was still the pre-concession rate:)

Well, I'm going to show my ignorance here.... but what is longevity and how does it work???

Also, does anybody know what the first and second year pay is for FOs on the old and new contract? I'm interested at what i'll be making when I go back. Please PM me if you don't want to post it here on on open forum.

Thanks a million!

Longevity

It's you're senority, basically if you're a 5 year Capt and you take a 1 year Leave of Absence, when you come back you'll be a 7 year capt, instead of a 6 year capt.

You're Longevity continues, even though you haven't been working...

I hope that makes sense:)

As far as you're pay the first year is crap then second year will be crap plus a little token amount. Seriously, you'll take home around $1000/month on reserve, maybe $1200 if you do some flying. Sorry. Add around 10-20% second year, after concessionary period is up plus work rules plus the fact you shouldn't still be on rsv..... Sorry again....

Recalls are slated as 4 FO's then 4 catain reupgrades, then 4 more FO's and then 10FO's sometime in Sept. I think?
Does that sound right to you TC?

Jobear

8 F/O's and 4 Capt. re-upgrades in August with 10 initial F/Os starting Sept. 8 is accurate right now. I have heard there is talk of adding a few more to the Sept. class...possibly 2 for a total of 12.
