I think you missed my point about acting like an adult.

Fellas, I think we have another 13 year old having some fun.

I hope you won't show up at any airline with that attitude. it is going to scare me to know that you might fly my family around. Someone must have made a huge mistake hiring you and placing you in a pool.

Wow! That was a very interesting set of posts. My advice, as a swimmer, is relax and continue doing what you are doing. Its out of your hands so y worry about it. I am working at Walgreens for cash, I dont mind, things could be a lot worse although scanning things for 7 bucks an hour is not great!!!! :) I am excited to have made the pool at a regional and know when the time is right I will get the call and if not, then I will continue to interview for other jobs to keep my options open.

Life is as complex and you make it out to be. Why not just go for the ride on things you don't control and work on the things you can control.

Just my .2 cents.

I say, drink until you can't remember what the problem is.

If you don't feel like waiting around for Skyway, apply elsewhere. They are not the only place hiring and they are not the end all, be all, of aviation. I hear Expressjet is hiring. Try Eagle. Try Airnet. Try a FedEx feeder. At 1300 hours, try any respectable place that will give you the time of day. If Skyway does not get the DCI deal, then a lot of swimmers will be treading water for a long time. Remeber, in this line of work, 1. you can't believe any employer until the first paycheck clears the bank; 2. Your employer needs to think that you believe and trust every pearl of wisdom that issues forth from thier mouths
3. Your boss will always view you as an easily replaceable cost unit; 4. During times like these, you are almost always required notice +1 day away from furlough 5. You are only right about half as often as you think you are.

Forget it. I'm done taking anyones advice on this website.
Ding ding ding - we have a winner!

If your really want to fly ( God help you ) then be determined and your will find a job for about five years before that gig goes South. Or you could start your own business and buy your own airplanes. I've done both and working for yourself is a lot more dependable way to having nice equipment to operate.

Orvill and Wilbur had twice the number of pilots they needed and had to flip a coin to see who flew "the airplane." Things have not changed much since then.

I suggest reading Moon Dog's Academy of the Air and Other Disasters for proper perspective. My father flew for Global, Worldwide, EFS Bahammas, Buffalo Airways, Seaboard World and Flying Tigers ( 9 out of the first 16 years furloughed or bankrupt ) before retiring from Fed Ex. This is not a business for people with weak constitutions. Delta is going in the tank, so what. You have nothing invested in Delta. Adapt.

Sorry to post this but it had to be done.

September 16, 2004 Delta Air Lines said on Wednesday its auditors had expressed concern about the airline's financial viability.

In a regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the airline said its accountants, Deloitte & Touche, said the company's losses, labor problems and liquidity issues raise significant doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.

Delta said earlier this week it was meeting with bankruptcy lawyers in the event of a decision to seek Chapter 11 protection.

The airline unveiled plans last week to cut as many as 7,000 jobs as it tries to renegotiate its debt and has been in concession talks with pilots.

All big airlines have been stung by weak revenues and high fuel prices. US Airways filed for bankruptcy on Sunday for the second time in two years.

THIS SUCKS ASS..........

Justino,

This was done for several reasons. The creditors WANTED to know what was going on at Delta, so with the help of Deloitte and Touche---we gave it to them. We kind of "put our cards down on the table." This will give the creditors a clear view of what we need. It was also done to persuade the pilots again for more concessions, and the other employee groups. The auditors said that if nothing changes---same high pay scales, same high lease payments, high fuel prices etc....we will tank. That is obvious. I doubt things will stay the same.

You keep saying that GL, but nothing has happened so far. I hope for all our sakes something happens for the good quickly.

If this goes to CH11, you guys are going to lose a lot more than I (we) will. I'm already use to living in poverty (not quite, but close).

chperplt,

This is all done like we are at a poker table. We all have cards to show, but we are keeping them close. Eventually all of us will show our hands. But, if one shows too early---the others will not double down. Everyone knows we (pilots) will be giving back a ton. But, we don't know what the creditors will do---and we need their help also. If we just laid down and said "here you go boys, $1 billion a year!"---the creditors may not do much at all. This is high stakes poker, and we will all lose something. By the way, I have been saving up for a large pay cut---and I think most of us have. I wasn't here long enough to really buy the huge house and new cars---which might save me in the end.

GL,

You aren't much of a gambler are you? You don't double down in Poker, but in Blackjack.:D

I completely understand what you're saying. I just hope that each group doesn't keep raising the stakes thinking the other is bluffing... at some point the company will have to go "all in" and everyone will lose when they do.

Chperplt,

Man alive, you are right! Actually, when I layover in LAS I head for the craps table---not blackjack or poker. It is easier to play craps---since that is what I do a lot in my shorts, and how I feel often. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

GL

You're too funny man!! In the almost 3 years that I've lived in Vegas, I still can't figure out craps... Just when I think I've got it, I realize I'm still a confused little puppy!!!

DDpaysoff,

You mean 300 early retirements? I think a lot more if Dalpa and management get an agreement going. If they get what they want---the company would guarantee their lump sum and the pilots would stay for 4-6 months. If I could get my lump sum guaranteed---I'd do it too--because in a Chap 11 senario--nothing is guaranteed. I bet 500 Capts will do it. A huge bid would follow.

Chperplt,

I usually just go up to the table and throw down the minimum and just watch what people are doing. After a while I figure it out again. I was told by a dealer once that I should "learn how to play this game" and I retorted "Hey, I am the type of player your casino WANTS---leave me alone." I walked off with about $100 bucks from the table---not bad.

General, sht I don't blame them at all. I would do the same thing. They put in 20+ years and then expect them to stay around and clean up Leo's mess. I'd have been gone three months ago. I wouldn't wait around for the hopes they will use vasilene and be gentle.

DDpaysoff,

IF the crap really hit the fan, expect more like 1000 or more (maybe 1500) guys to bail. The plan is funded pretty well, and even if the judge were to stop lump sums temporarily if Delta asked him to, he would eventually allow guys to take THEIR money and leave. I would be a 777 Capt by default! Kinda scary!(I know what you are thinking!)
