I was wondering if anyone has any info about the 328jet at skyway. I start class 7/6 and would like to get some hints, tips, etc. Also if there is anybody else starting that date, I would like to hear from you. My impression of the company is great and I cant wait to start. thanks.

Just from jumpseating, I can tell you that it is slow, it's broken a lot, and everything is held together with velcro. Other than that, I hear that the people flying it like it.

Have fun!

I didnt fly it at skyway, but you'll love it! It is slow, but it climbs good, has nice avionics and flies great. Have fun! check out avsoft.com and pick your self up a cockpit poster.

skyway training

Hey bige2000,
I also start training july 6th. I am excited as heck to start with Skyway. As for the preperation...I purchased the avsoft 328jet quick study book.

Any new hires to skyway I would call HQ and ask if you can get a copy of the manual if your in the KMKE they may let you use one until Ground School starts and it's better than studing something wrong.

August : 27 FRJs (26 flying and 1 spare)

September : 27 FRJs (26 flying and 1 spare)

October : 20 FRJs (19 flying and 1 spare)

November : 0

Rumor: DoJet phase out with no announcement of where they will be going ..

You'll definitely get some good glass time. Flying anything else will be easy after Dojet experience. You'll also watch a lot of airplanes pass you by - it's dang slow... Takeoffs are fun though as a passenger.

It's a great airplane to train crews on emergencies. In the DoJet, you will declare many........

Hi,

I second what Jobear said. Try to get your hands on the system manual. I know they used to send them out to the pilots who were going to start class. At the minimum, study the memory items and limitations. You will at least get a head start on things. Skyway has a really great training dept, so just prepare as much ahead of time as you can. Awesome airplane to fly, you will love it ! I give a lot of credit to the Skyway maintance dept. I accumlated over 2000 hrs in in the Do jet with not one single emergency.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the info. I am trying to get the manuals or any stuff that Skyway will give up, but no luck yet. Ill put a little more pressure on them monday. Jobear, I have a feeling that Ill be seeing you around mke. I cant wait to get in that airplane and actually fly!

To the New Hires-

Just wondering, how long did it take to receive a call from Skyway after applying?

Also, any idea how long hiring is supposed to go on?

Thanks!

Allright I've been seconded by the bus driver:cool: . Thanks for that P and the coffee a couple weeks ago.

Welcome aboard and good luck

You'll love flying the DO Jet. Overall great airplane but it has it's quarks. A check airman at Skyway said it best, "Very advanced cockpit paired with a very crude airframe."

I cant tell ya anything about it... i fly the Beech and a gearmonkey at that.... Hi Jobear

I've never declared an emergency since I've been flying the DoJet...probably about 1100 hours.

Over 1000 hours in the DoJet. No Emergencies. 1 return to base. The Jetstream 41 had more problems then this.

Hearing a lot of rumors that the Skyways deal is falling through with Delta. People at the Pan Am Facility in IAD are saying that Skways has pulled back its training program. Anyone from Skyways hearing this?

fingers still crossed

There are currently 107 pilots in training at skyway, and new hires in the jet are being told they are being hired for to fly 328's for delta out of CVG. Nothing is solid but everyone seems to think were getting them. Personally, I wont belive it till i see it, but I certainly hope it goes through, otherwise theres gonna be some furloughs.

Skyway's primary 328 sim is DFW with IAD as secondary. Skyway prefers to send crews to DFW so they are trained by company pilots.

I guess it depends on the pilot. I started working on / with the DoJets in 01, when they were still new to us. We had many emergencies declared for dumb things, that have now been ironed out. I guess I should have stated that differently in the first place...

Are you saying that pilots declared emergencies for dumb things, or that things that shouldn't have failed, did fail, causing the emergency?

I thought the Delta deal with Skyway was all but signed, of course no official word means something might not be going right. I thought no else was a contender/wanted the 328's?

Gotta' love those mechanics (who are firmly planted on the ground), that armchair quarterback pilot's for declaring an emergency...

Hmmm, were you there? Is it your license on the line, but more importantly...is it YOUR ASS on-the-line?

SAFETY is our number one priorty! What's yours?

No, pilots had to declare for shall I say small things due to procedure i.e. landing gear down & lock indicators being burned out. Depending on the pilots experience in the aircraft, some would approach this situation differently, and an emergency was not declared. That is what I meant by dumb things (a light bulb combined with bad procedures to deal with it) and they have since been ironed out (procedure changed).

You misunderstood me there. See above post. Believe me, I know what you are up against more so than you think. I was not saying anything against the pilots. I will let this get back to the training questions, don't want it to get way off topic....

That's most likely because PanAm's instructors s___

I'll take this from here....

uck.

That's the word you were looking for right?

It's certainly true that Dallas is the perferred place that Skyway is sending pilots to get trained. I hear that Dulles instructors are lacking in comparison and many Skyway pilots are having a hard time getting through the program over there. I even heard that some are refusing to take the check ride because they believe they haven't been trained properly and won't pass.
