I'm glad to know you enjoy your job and are satisfied with your level of compensation...but dang guy lay off the koolaid. Ever heard the saying "You're only worth what you negotiate"?

Its also clear Newman doesn't want to ruin his koolaid induced stupor with the facts... Prior to 9/11 we have always had COLA in addition to longevity pay, and since then even though SkyWest Inc. has always maintained one of the highest operating margins in this industry, they can no longer provide us with COLA to keep our real earnings adjusted for inflation from dropping every year?

You need to allocate a few hours a quarter to read or listen to the quarterly investor conference calls and educate yourself. Noone is going to do that for you.

And that's fine. There's nothing wrong with enjoying what you do and your life. Most of us do as well.
But you just can't use that to excuse unfairness. That's when "principles" comes into play. You can't live all your life looking out just for yourself.

Why give to charity? I have a good life.
Habitat for humanity? who cares! I have a house.
Recycling? I don't see the garbage therefore I don't care.

Those statements sounds ridiculous, but that's how you sound when you don't want to take a stand for others or just for the principle.

I was able to make/save enough money to pay as I went. I ended up debt free out of college. That saves me a lot of money right there. I have no money at all going toward student loans.

I wouldn't say I have a blase attitude. I just freely admit that life is good to me and I enjoy what I do. I also think I do pretty well for myself. I worked plenty of jobs through college and this job pays better than all of them. Especially for the captains. You do have to subtract first year pay of course. First year pay is pretty much bad everywhere though. You have to live for the moment. You can't always live in fear of the future you just have to live to today and see what tomorrow brings.

Wait a minute, a job as a professional pilot "pays better than all the part time jobs you had in college(except you have to subtract the first year pay of course)". WOW, you better call Jerry and let him know the guys that work for him with passenger lives in their hands are overpaid...Send him some of your pay stubs from your part time college jobs to give him an idea as to what we should really make! Did your mom drop you on your head when you were small???

I am well aware of the facts. No COLA, no raise since 2001, etc etc. I am still quite happy where I am at. Nothing in life is perfect after all. The fact is there are plenty of airlines below us still not making what we do. When things get to a point where I am swimming in debt and can't pay the bills I don't think I will worry much. There is a lot more to life than money. If you have a spouse that works and make captain pay you end up doing just fine. Doing mostly locals it is like a 9-5 job and I have lots more days off. I guess if you want to call me a koolaid drinker then that is what I am. It sure does taste good and it beats being bitter all the time.

I must appologize to you for saying I'd probably "beotch" slap you twice after a few ales. After reading this post, I'm wanting to buy the first and last round, and pat you on the back for the sly dog you are. You took it too far though and believability just plain went out the door. No one can REALLY think this way. All along you've been acting as a catalyst to make people bring up the facts, and explain their position so all the new guys can make an informed decision on how to vote on this proposal. You showed up three weeks ago after ONE post in 2 1/2 years and now have over 100 post on the board that at almost every turn has gotten people off their arses and on their keyboards trying to explain reasonable positions on either side of the fence. The mindless, self centered, and just plain asinine post you've made have let a lot of guys trolling this board to hopefuly form an opinion. You aren't aware of the facts...the last COLA was actually the year before 9/11 for many who had a hire date anniversary in the months after 9/11, so this would mean the pay proposal/joke/steamy pile would have us locked in with a 1.0% raise for over 10 years(not even 1% a year, which would still be well below the inflation rate but 1% total). I am well aware this proposal is far from perfect. The problem is that it is either this or vote in ALPA and go nearly 10 years with no raise at all for anyone. A contract could takes months to years to complete. I would rather have something locked in. I think once ASA gets their contract settled we will be able to get more. If we can get a lot more after ASA gets a contract then we won't need the union either which is another 2% pay bump.

No ALPA contract has taken 10 years to negoiate that I know of. I was refering to the fact that if ALPA is voted in and this raise is voted down then it would be like having no raise for 10 years. No raise since 2001, by the time we have the election it could almost be another year. Factor in between 1-4 years to negoiate a contract and there you have it. No raise for 10 years. With this at least we have something while we work on the next raise.

I would like to see the Brasillia guys get a raise. Unfortunately it did not happen this time. Hopefully we can work on that one next time, when ASA finishes their contract we will have more leverage. I would rather have a raise now then keep working on more later.

Your vote in the pay deal is basically sticking a knife in the back of ASA's negotiating efforts. You don't have any clue how bargaining works do you? The SkyWest pay deal gives management a huge advantage if they end up in arbitration. Compare your rates to ASA's long expired rates.

It frightens me to think that you might be in command of an airplane. Your judgement and thinking sucks.

I guess the next thing you'll be saying is that if SKYW pilots want a raise they can apply at ExJet.
