Didn't UAL and AA cancel hundreds of flights in and out of Chicago over the holiday?

When UAL and AA cancel flights out of one hub, the other hubs keep the airlines and the people going. When Skybus gets slammed in CMH, that pretty much shuts down the airline (same as for JetBlue with JFK).

so...lets say they get 100 terds on board that paid 10 bucks...thats only $1000.00 of revenue....plus what ever these terds buy onboard. Now, how much cost difference/fuel burn would it be to fly back close to empty and burning less gas than to load up with more wt. and only get a Grand out of it. Hmm.

They only offer I think 10 tickets at the $10 dollar rate the rest of the tickets sell from 150$ to the high $200's

And here is the problem. If they are flying around with 90% load factors, its those last 10% that went unsold that was supposed to make the money.

Its easy to sell $10 tickets, but try filling up that plane with $400 tickets. It gets tough.

Either way the numbers don't ad up for much of a profit. Do they have any contracts to fly anything below??

Gee...Thanks...this big complicated airline stuff really boggles my mind:)

Should we not feel bad for a stranded Delta Pax because they didn't pay millions to ride on a private jet? If not where then do you draw the line?

I would argue that most travelers are truly ignorant of the system and then you take the curve balls skybus throws in with no jetways, 2 dollar soda, no through flights, no baggage through, no interline agreements, landing at some truly out of the way airports like st augustine that has an FBO and nothing else. they kind of create their own set of unique probelms... but i don't think the passengers need to be maligned here though. remember, wal mart has educated an entire nation on how to prucahse goods and services
