Anytime that one company has been unionized and another has not been, the non union company attempts to keep their pay and workrules close to the union companies to prevent the union from starting on their property. Do a little homework.

Let's have a vote then. As a 12+ year ALPA member, and an ALPA volunteer, I would gladly vote ALPA off the property for a single list on the Skywest Inc. property. I would rather work for Skywest without ALPA, than Mesa or Pinnacle with ALPA.

Just how much do you know about pinnacle?? I will admit that the influx of low time pilots is a bad thing, but ALPA at PCL has reasonable work rules, just not the best. Pay at 15 years at PCL is better than ASA for a 50 seat RJ. The PCL problems lie with a CEO and executive group who bought into low time pilots to keep wages down. The ALPA leadership at PCL and the core group there are hard core airline types. You can expect a reasonable contract or a strike there when the current negotiations come to a head.

The pilots that are going to Skywest are the ones that want to live out west instead of Atlanta. Most are junior and are not losing much. How many Atlanta pilots have jumped ship to go to Skywest?

Is five and six years of experience junior? We got guys coming here from a lot of different airlines with ALPA contracts. Some guys in class had more regional experience as newhires than I did as a 4 year upgrade.

Why is that?

Very good question atlcrjdriver. This is the essence of why ALPA is opposed to fighting for a single list in our section 6 negotiations. If we were successful as Mesa, CHQ, and EGL were, we would have a representational vote to determine who would represent the new combined pilot group. ALPA doesn't want that because they might just lose the ASA pilots in addition to the SKYW pilots.

We as ASA pilots need to do what is best for ASA pilots, not what is best for ALPA or for "the profession". If it means dumping ALPA, then so be it. A single group, ALPA or not, is better than a shrinking ALPA group IMO.

Well, since 49% of the Skywest pilots voted for ALPA last time, and 92% of the ASA pilots voted to strike, I think ALPA would have no problem getting over 50% in a representational vote. I promise you that's not what's holding ALPA back. As usual, you're barking up the wrong tree. What's holding them back is that the combined list would put ASASkywest in Group A territory and we unclean would get a seat at the master's table. The good 'ol boys in A 'aint gonna allow that!
