In lieu of the recent post (which went south, naturally) and since I am considering a career at a well-known fractional...

I would like to know why you think life at a Fractional is great. Whether its general thoughts or specific stories that tell why Id like to hear them as Im sure there are others considering fractional jobs.

If you have something negative to post please think twice and dont. Im looking for sincere replies. If someone replies with something you dont agree with or something of the like please just keep it to yourself or post somewhere else. There are plenty of negative posts about frac life out there so keep it out of this one please.

This should go without saying...but it obviously doesn here...so PLEASE dont hijack this thread with attacks at other peoples posts. If you do this thread will immediately turn in the wrong direction and be worthless. So PLEASE dont.

Seriously....like mom always said...If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all.

So anyway....what about fractional life do you enjoy?

for someone starting out it would probably be a great way to go, if they would hire you :)

"for someone starting out it would probably be a great way to get experience"

Semp. are you serious?

First of all you need experience to get hired at NetJets, they don't hire 1500 hour CFI's. I think the average is around 5000 hours.

And What are you talking about getting experience, where are you going to go once you have your "experience". I don't think people are leaving for Commair or any regional jobs. The only place that guys might leave for right now is SouthWest or Jet Blue.

In a couple of month's when this contract is done it WILL be a career job. For right now I'm making around 60k a year and I have been here 3 years. I should be making around 85K to 90k in a few months. That doesn't sound like a starting job in aviation.

I like this job and enjoy this type of flying even though it can be demanding at times.

Irish pilot, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

he didn't specify net jets per se :),,,and check back when you are actually making 90k :) ...and i didn't mean the original post i made as a "cut"..i fixed said post.

I am a little ways away from those time requirements....actually only the total time requirement...but I am now a captain at a small 121 airline. I know a few people (ah heck Ill say it) at NetJets and thats the direction I am hoping to go. With about 1ooo hours 121 Turbine PIC and few good recs Im hoping Ill be a serious contender.

Who knows though. Things can and will change over the next year.

I look forward to a 7/7 schedule, a little job security, and getting out and about the country in some nice equipment. I realize no job is perfect...but I like what I hear about NJ.

1000 turbine PIC and thinking you might be a "contender" for a 26K/yr fractional job?

DEAR GOD MAN - think about that....

 .

Hey gulfsteram. Didn't we just have this discussion on the Pinicale thread? "Ah geez, Shucks. Maybe I can handle a f/o citation gig since I have been flying your relatives around as a captain for a regional airline". Dude! that is farked up!

I havent decided what I am going to do next....Im not sure what 2500TT with 1ooo PIC will get me...but like Ive said before...I like the idea of moving home, having a 7/7 schedule and a good QOL. Who knows.

All due respect...if you dont have anything reasonable to post to my question please dont post at all.

Anyone have anything to say about their frac job at all?

with all due respect..you are looking for QOL..what kind of QOL does 26K/yr buy?

what are you going to do on you "7/7" schedule...get a part time job at Wlamart to buy food?

I dont care what your total time is, you can do better. At least I think you can.

The life of a fractional pilot is very busy and unpredictable while on the road, however this is what makes it fun for myself. I like the fact I must be on my toes and ready to change my entire plan at a moments notice, this takes alot of thought and short term planning. You must rethink your fuel loads and prices for tankering, performance for new landing and takeoff (APG), new customer transpartation plans, catering, and pray you have paperwork at the new FBO indicating the new changes.
I worked Part 121 and 135 and the 121 job was always the same routes, long runways and visuals or ILS's. The planning for 121 was done by our dispatchers so we would just show-up preflight, take-off, land and then open the door to say goodbye. I'm not putting this type of flying down, just explaning to you my choice. Alot of guys what to fly the big iron so they will chase almost any 121 job, to me, after a couple months in the aircraft a plane is just a plane (a 757 is a sexy bird though).
I work for Flexjet and love the place (most of the time), I fly with good guys and gals and the company listens to our problems (we just received a pay raise without asking), I have been here a long time so I progressed very fast, now of course you progress slower but that's called timing, I have been on both sides in aviation. I have many friends at Netjets and a couple at Flight Options and Citation Shares, from their stories we all go through the same trials. What it boils down to is, what do you like, are you a person that likes to work hard and can handle changes or would you rather have a set schedule where almost nothing changes, both of these are individual preferrence!
