I just read about Ed Hommer's death on Mt. Rainer. Ed was a captain at Eagle for a bunch of years and the article stated he was now an AA MD-80 FO. Ed was a very inspirational guy, he lost both legs in a crash on Mt. McKinley in Alaska. He returned to flying and was the first douple amputee to become a commercial pilot. I was a Maintenace guy at Eagle when Ed was there, I also had lost my medical at the time, without ever really talking to the man he was an inspiration, and showed that that I too ,with a medical issue, can still obtain a flying job, which I did.
He is a great inspiration to all pilots and especially those overcoming hurdles in thier personal or proffesional lives. If anyone knew Ed please share with us what kind of guy he was. I unfortunatley never knew him beside the occasional interaction at Eagle.
Take care
