Does anybody know of a sim center in the Los Angeles area that will rent a couple hours in a level C or D sim? Ideally looking for heavy iron, but a bizjet would be OK...

Thanks in advance,

hummm...I think the days of showing up and renting a heavy iron sim (or any sim) for a few hours are long gone...

Try Flight Safety at Long Beach (LGB).

Btw, report back what you find. I'm curious what they've got too.

Please tell me you want to learn to land your "heavy iron" simulator!

seriously,

If you are looking to fly a big sim, try the 737 program that is offered down in Houston with Continental. I forget the website off the top of my head, but it can usually be found in the back of most aviation magazines. I also think there is an article about it on AvWeb.

Flight Safety in LGB is now called Alteon (Boeing owned company)
You can rent sim time, just have a pilot's license and a passport.,oh ya and a bunch of money.
They have a 717, 737-200/300, 737-700, MD-11, MD-82 and MD87/88.

Checkout their site: http://www.alteontraining.com

Also just saw this on their site.

The United States Department of Homeland Security has implemented a new aviation security program. As of 5 October 2004, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has assumed responsibility for screening pilots requesting FAA approved flight training. Alteon will comply with all mandatory government security requirements while maintaining our status as the preferred aviation training provider. Customers who have selected Alteon for flight training can expect our greatest effort to minimize the impact these changes will bring.

I thought one needed a reason to be in the sim, like an authorization from your company?

no?

be curious if anyone hears otherwise..

I think all companies with sims can contract them out. When I got my 737 type through K&S (out of my own pocket) they contracted through AWA. So if you got the $$$ and check out security wise I don't think it would be a problem.

In spite of 9/11 capitalism is still alive and well.

P.S. Will someone call me and at least pretend they are from SWA?

With that, you have officially satisfied my "laugh out loud at least once a day" requirement. Thank you.

I think anyone can rent a sim if you are willing to pay the price, and your name isn't AL KADA.

Bye Bye--General Lee

Turns out Alteon @ LGB has a simulator "experience" program. $100 per 30 mins. MD11, 737, or 717...great gift for pilots and wanabees.

I heard if you work for them for a year or two you get 3 free type ratings or something like that... anybody know if this is true?
