Recieved a pretty nice offer to stay at home and fly locally. I have a wife and young child. I've been commuting for five years and it only gets tougher (weight limits etc..) However I have a pretty good gig with a top notch regional if not the best regional in the biz. Anyone have any insight?

More info needed

How does the offer compare with what you have now? It's hard to comment without a way to compare them.

As someone who has reached the "pinnacle" of their flying career, I can say that finding good, solid, employment in a "local" flying job and being home more often than not is a good thing. But I can't make your decision for you. Regional pay as a captain on a jet beats the hell out of the $40,000 to $55,000 you'll make in the 135 world.

Good luck on your decision and hopefully if you take the local flying job, it's a rewarding and stable position, working for an outstanding operator.

That's a big assumption. Where did you get the info that all you can make flying charter is 40 to 55k?

WASG. If you are going to be home more than not in charter or aviation, you'll never make more than that. Pack a suitcase, wear a pager and go out and make more money...I won't be stopping you.

A power company flight crew asked me to come work for them as a B-300 FO once, starting pay was $55,000 a year and that was 5 years ago. You are correct, there is more money to be had in 91/135 flying than 40 to 55K a year and thank goodness people have bargained for those well desearved wages.

No suitcase here, and no pager either.

Look, ya just need to know how to work the system. Sure, pick something like a Gulfstream, then you'll be gone all the time. But pick a Citation, something with no range, then you'll just be doing day trips and can make 70 to 90k a year.

Besides, jokerfuel might be referring to a part 91 gig. But with the sparce info he's listed, I don't think we can really help him much.
