SF Bay Area Pilots

I was noticing on the SF Bay area sectional that the 30mn Mode C veil of SFO Class B doesn't exactly line up with the outermost rings of Class B.

I assume (and you know what they say about assuming) that the central point to measure the Mode C veil is their radar facility & that the rings that deliniate Class B are centered around the VOR or Airport reference point.

Can anyone deny or confirm?

Artistic license

I don't have a really good answer for you but I think the designers of Class B airspace are allowed a little artistic license when they dream up the final shape and scale.

The mythical 'upside-down wedding cake' is just a theoretical starting point and then they design the actual dimensions to fit actual needs.

But, yeah, I think the 30nm ring is based on distance from the primary airport and it's ARP.

Havent seen the SFO Sectional or Class B chart in a while, but if memory serves, the sectors had reference to dme paired with one of ILS's ( 28?). Who knows if the 30nm veil corelates. For some reason I always tuned in the ILS when determining class B sectors. Lazy now, and always fly IFR.
