That's **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ing horrible; at first I was thinking where is it?

Funny thing is that they've (the city of Cleveland) have been filling in the area around Burke Lakefront Airport by dumping dirt into the lake and expanding the airport area out into the breakwater. Next time you land the 24's in CLE check out what I'm talking about. There are some here who want the same fate for BKL as Meigs. Luckily they still have the economic attractions of a Champ Car race and airshow every year to justify it's existence. But those may not last much longer.

Daly is an @ss....

that hurts..

Did they (FAA & AOPA) ever get that pr!ck on anything or are they still working on it.
(Haven't paid attention to it for a few months)

I didn't realize they were converting Meigs to a grass field...

That is simply horible!

What comes around goes around mayor. Could you imagine flying this guy around? Knowing what he did?

Before each flight you would have to ask him, "Mayor, before we begin this flight is there anything we should know about the destination? Like, did you bulldoze that runway too?"

Wankel

A quick story about Meigs and the Mayor.

Years ago I was at Meigs and as many of you know that the airport shut down at 10:00pm. My passengers showed up and we were firing up the airplane to leave when a person came running out to the aircraft yelling at us to stop. He said it was 10:02 and you cant fly. My passenger said to the person "who says I cant leave." The airport person said "the Mayor". My passenger laughed and told him he was going anyhow.

The man said the mayor will fine you.
My passenger told the man "thats fine, tell him to send it to the Governor."
The man looked at him and realized that he was talking to the Governer of the state of Illinios. The GOV was feroius with the whole sitution and could not believe this man was so rude.

True story....I will always laugh at it

Truly a sad state of affairs.

That golf course looks like a great place to practice T&Gs in some taildragger with tundra tires, a "broken" transponder and the N-#s covered up.

I'm just sayin....

I've got a similar story...although it involves my dad instead of the Mayor. He was downtown for the fireworks for the 4th of July. It was shortly after 10PM when he, my mom, and a friend returned to depart. A local cop told them that the field was closed and no departures would be allowed. My dad had no desire to leave the plane overnight, so he told the cop that he had to go secure the plane. The cop only let him go out...so he whispered "Midway" to my mom. He ran out to the airplane and took off. So that's his prized story about stealing his plane from Meigs.

I don't believe that they can legally do that can they? I remember the FAA challenging some prohibition here in Florida.

Why would they do that? It isn't like anyone lives near the lake shore, they are all office buildings. Plus an the aircraft that go into Meigs aren't all that loud...

The real story...

...Daly and his wife have a place just south of Meigs and his wife didn't like the airport...plus....it was convenient for the down state Republicans to fly downtown...so the Democrat daly used it as a political jab as well.

If every pilot will donate a couple of dollars and someone would donate a little taildragger...i'll plant the fokker right in there...and call the tv stations to film it.:D How friggin cool would that be?
I'm deadly serious...we could stick it in that a$$clowns beak. Donate a banner plane and we could even send a message to that pompous Dick.
I'll need the money to get outta jail and pay attorney fees if I can't back in the air.

Oh hell yeah.

W

Everyone who's lived in Chicago has a good story about how corrupt Daley is. What always gets me is everytime he's up for re-election he always wins by a landslide.....and the city districts he loses in never get their streets plowed in the winter.

Freekin' Daley
GO CUBS!!!

The EPA will never let BKL become a park. Since it was a land fill, the flash point is only about 6 feet below the surface. People that work there even have to fill out a waiver because of it.

I wish someone in the Chicago press would point out that it is actually easier to fly close to the city since they shut down the Meigs class D. You can fly VFR within 1.5 nm of the Sears tower without even talking to anyone. Security concerns my @ss.

Screw you King Richard!
