I just bought a house and my wife gave me permission to take over a wall. I'd like to purchase All the sectionals for the continental US so I can have a VFR map of the whole US on one of my walls.

If anybody has done this...

What are the dimensions of the full map?

Dude its gonna be freaking HUGE. I have a buddy who put up some sectionals from the Southwest US in his garage wall and with only CA, OR, NV, and AZ it stands probably 7 feet tall by about 5 feet wide. I think to make it work you are gonna need a room with high ceilings.

The other problem you are gonna have is lining the sectionals up. With the curvature of the earth you can line up one end of two charts but the other is a little off.

Skeezer

Hope that you have a big wall. It's going to be about 22 feet high and 36 feet long ... how big is your house, anyway?
You might want to consider doing it with WACs, it will be about half that size. You could possibly squeeze it on an 8 foot high wall if you left off have Washington, Maine and a good part of Texas and Florida

I guess it won't be all of the US. Since I'm in Florida I'll start there and work my way up to the ceiling.

I don't think map wall paper counts as dorky! I have nautical maps as well. Its cheaper than wallpaper.

I use my old ones for birthday and X-mas wrapping paper. That might be dorky, or it could be I was just too lazy to go buy actual wrapping paper and it looks better than old paper bags.

I think she meant a very small one in the closet so she doesn't get embarrassed by your dork idea when company comes over.

If you want a sectional map, there are smaller ones for sale (small poster size) that are not for navigational use. I have a laminated version of the contiguous 48 states that folds up flat in my flight case.

Reconfirm Dork Alert

Just keep diggin that hole deeper and deeper. :D

Just kidding, dont take offence, anyway though it won't look that good due to the forementioned alignment. Just get a large us map or a VFR planning map and keep a set of us sectionals in a box for detailed ref. Just my 2 cents. :)

Quick ?

How does a CFI manage to buy a house?

Could you please give us some tips on how you landed that sugar momma or which bank you robbed?

...and don't forget that you'll have to buy two copies of each sectional chart in order to use both the front and back......

I was just thinking the same exact thing. I struggled big time, even with my wife working.....and I was making $14 to $17 and hour.

Must have a real nice daddy (or daddy in-law who doesn't want his 'lil girl in a nasty, dirty, full of trailer trash apartment).
