Its easy for us to say what he should have done, or what we would have done. bottom line, we have NO idea what was going on when he was at the controls. It was a C310. It would be easy to get lost in an airplane like that with smoke in the cockpit, having to worry about fuel, control cables, or not enough time to get on the ground while trying to breath through smoke. I feel for the family and friends that lost someone in this tragic accident.

Always a sad event when a fellow aviator goes down.

Equally sad when the media vultures pounce on it before the fires have even gone out.

So why do countless GA morons (And the Pinnacle toolboxes) manage to centerpunch houses, schoolyards, and apartment buildings?

Are you really that big of an idiot? Do you really think that this pilot, or ANY pilot for that matter, really intended to put his plane into a few houses and kill bystanders? You make me sick.

The guy was a doctor for christ's sake. His job is to help people. Regardless, you think he intended to harm those on the ground?

You have no idea if his plane fell apart and was uncontrollable, if he was conscious, or if he could even see.

I am glad we have superpilots like you to keep all of us from intentionally killing others. Thanks for YOUR contribution to aviation.

True.

However, from my interpretation of Cardinal's post, he was speaking in general. It did not seem to me that he was giving any Monday morning QB'n.

FIRST OFF F*&K YOU YOU PIECE OF CRAP!

Mike Klem was a friend of mine and one hell of a damn good pilot and not some GA moron! You could'nt carry his jock strap! Your arrogance is unbelieveable.
God forbid the day you do something wrong and you will. Did you not read that they had smoke in the cockpit. That was the last transmission according to ATC. I will gaurantee you that if Mike could have put it in Lake Monroe or the trees he would have!

Next time think before you open your pie hole and insert both of your feet

I think everyone needs to just cool it.

This plane stopped at by the airport I work at the day before the crash. According to the other line guys the pilot was "running 300 mph". He was in such an unbelievable hurry. Next morning he goes down. I know they are saying it was an emergency but perhaps he didn't take the necessary time to accurately complete the preflight.

We constantly jump the media and others for their mistakes in rush to judgement and then we ourselves do the same. Smoke in the cockpit is usually caused by something burning and who knows what that was. Do all of you know where your smoke mask is? What exactly is the 310 procedure for smoke? What do you do if your panel bursts into flame or stops working altogether and you are trying to find the airport for an emergency landing?? What kind of rocket scientist does it take to know your chances of living are better if you do not hit objects like buildings if you can avoid them??? Lastly, what kind of person would presume to have any idea what was going on in that cockpit when it hit?
In my job, I make calculated guesses as to what caused aircraft accidents but never in one case I can think of did I try and make a judgement on what the pilot did in a case like this any more than the rudder trim accident a month or so back.

I'm sorry your friend passed away, I'm sure this is a very emotional time. I'm also very sorry for the boy whose life and body has been permanently, forever scarred in a most horrible way. That made ME very emotional.

My earlier post was very general in nature, and admitted upfront the fact that we weren't there and all the information is not in. If there is a specific part of my post that you object to or dishonors a particular deceased individual, PM me and I'll delete that part.

No real use in this type of speculation, obviously a very experienced pilot and hopefully an investigation will shed some light on the cause, condolences to friends and family.
