Takeoff CONFIG - Sounds when the left power lever is advanced to the T/O and either condition lever is not at max, flaps are beyond 15 degrees, or elevator trim is not in the green range.

Landing CONFIG - Sounds when the flaps are extended beyond 18 degees and all the gears are not locked down or below 500 feet radio altimeter height with either power lever at idle and all gears not locked down.

So, the light will come on during T.O. as soon as the PL is set. Any reason the light would come on at high speed(80-100KIAS)?

As FlyC... said you also get it when starting the left engine with the flight idle stop pulled. Most common real life cause of this is failure to firmly and fully push up CL for takeoff, they tend to slide back a bit if you don't give 'em a second push. FOs on OE have this happen frequently. The rest of this you should really never see.

Like saabcaptain said you probably had the condition levers vibrate out of the max position which triggered the warning. When you put the c.l. to max on the before t/o fully engage the friction lock to hold them there.

The FI Stop being pulled is one that not many know about. I also know for fact (took off with it pulled) that it does not always work. Had some of our lovely rampies in LEX playing in the plane one night and pulled the little red button. FI open light comes on after WOW is released. No Config horn, no nothing on engine start. Could have been a plane problem though. The plane sat in MEM for 3 days with the cockpit scattered through rows 1-6 last year. AC 420XJ. One of the last ones built. Good stuff.....

Well I do know for a fact that you can take off and find the FI stop open after rotation with no config warning. Got to experience this firsthand just yesterday AM.

Note I didn't say WITH THE KNOB PULLED... Because it wasn't. But that is a new one to me, too.

Most commom at high speeds(80-100 knots) would be the condition lever slipping back when the FO forgets to tighten the friction lock on the takeoff roll. Never had any of the others eg, trim out of the green/flaps > 15 deg!

Actually it is possible to have the FI stop open for a split second after take off. The FI stop opening has several criteria, wow plus a few seconds 3 ( I think) or wheel speed greater than 50 kts its been a while since RGS. So anyway for a spit second it is possible to have the FI stop open on liftoff before the wheels speed decreases.

I'm just a dumb Beech 1900 pilot... What is an FI stop?

The Flight Idle stop is an electronic block that prevents you from going from flight idle to ground idle while in flight. The Saab used to have just the trigger gate on the power levers to prevent that, until one of our guys selected ground idle in flight to deal with a slam dunk approach a few years back. When you do that, you remove three of your four overspeed protections, so both engines oversped and destroyed their power turbines, and the crew had to make a deadstick landing.

The FI stop override knob is there so you can manually open it if it fails to open automatically on landing. The plane would take a lot of runway and a lot of braking to stop if you couldn't reduce the power levers below flight idle.

Our ground school instructor has this little memory item for TO Config;

Con F IG

Con = condition levers not max

F = flaps beyond 15

IG = Trims not "In Green"

I haven't been in the Saab for a while, but I can still remember that.
