Does you company frown upon S-turns for spacing?
What do you folks do in the 121 worrld if you get a little close to the next guy on final?

S turns are a way of life in MSP. Try not to F*** it up.

I did a pretty low S turn going into ATL Saturday. That is the 2nd time that I've done S turns going into ATL. Sometimes that are a way of life.

Just don't explore what the maximum roll rate of your aircraft is and your good to go. It's a fact of life when flying when the a-hole in front of you puts on the brakes ten or fifteen miles. out or ATC slamm dunks you. I did it today and made sure the pax got their $ worth :)!!!

HAHAHA!!

But... but... there is NO way we can put this machine on that 8000' feet of concrete without an ILS and wiring that fooker all the way down. And by "we" I mean "I," and I know of what I speak. I have almost 1000 hours, and huge sunglasses.

If you are properly stabilized and don't violate FAR's or your company's manuals, you could save yourself a go around. MSP is the worst - it's almost like a game to them. The only time i've done go arounds in MSP, there weren't more than 5 aircraft in line to blast off. It was worse before 35 was opened.

Do you have spikey frosted hair and a windbreaker?

Yes he does. Wears his Ipod in the terminal as well, but conceals it in his backpack.

Sorry Sig. I just can't let an opportunity to pick on a good co-worker pass!

Cheers ya'll.

S-turns are ok, just make sure you finish at 500' or better...per stabilized approach criteria.

The Mesaba pilots have their own style of uniform non-compliance- the fleece vest or pullover. Even got a memo from a chief pilot out on it.
Let's see, alpa and mgmt. gut my uniform allowance for four years, and mgmt. rapes me in bankruptcy court for a year, and says we are all welcome to leave. Not too much pride in the profession, the company, or ourselves around here. A bad time to be enforcing uniform policy.
That pilot you pull aside just may tell you to "f*** off" and take the firing as an opportunity to move on and away from this toxic environment.

The answer: find an approved source for non-standard uniform items that pilots wear just to stay comfortable on an aircraft with no APU...

You guys are the ones who voted to accept the sh*tty contract terms. Cry me a river...Maybe you guys should have had some balls.

As for the s-turns- just refuse them and try to give the guy in front of you a RA from behind.

Back to the S-turns.....like the other's said just be sure you are stabilized by the 500'AGL mark.

I like to watch the TCAS and try to prevent it by watching the guy ahead...slow up. Depending on what type it is up there.... I will get like 3 miles on the visual and then mimick his speed.

I have the luzury of doing that as I fly a humble turbo prop...so give them 200 to the marker or 125 what ever they need...and still be on profile by the stabilized approach criteria and give a good ride to the folks in the back.

S-turns are a way of life in Philly when landing 35. They still haven't figured out that an RJ doesn't slow down like a Dash...or a 737 obviously, as I've seen a couple SWA planes go around recently.

I don't mind doing shallow S turns, but when the approach controller tells me max speed to the airport and when I switch to tower that controller tells me "slow to approach speed NOW and I need some hard S turns", I'm inclined to say no...
