91k is the new set of regulations that Fractionals will have to operate with in 2005. The REALLY GOOD part about the reg for us pilots is the PROSPECTIVE REST requirements of the regulation. They state that you have to have 10 hours of rest BEFORE any duty assignment.

Well, we currently get 10 hours of rest AFTER any duty assignment... How is 91k better you ask? Currently, after our rest is over, we enter this LIMBO land of neither duty or rest. Imagine if your rest was over at 6am, but there was nothing on your schedule the entire next day. Hang around the hotel, grab your free greasy breakfast, go over to the mall, work out, watch some TV, have some dinner, get ready for bed.... POOF an ASAP duty assignement to fly a transcon with 1 hour notice. Hey, you had your rest last night! Why do you need it again? Silly pilot....

Under the new rule, you will have to have 10 hours of rest BEFORE any duty assignement. That hypothetical day above, would not happen, or at least you'd have 10 hours of notice before your show time to at least grab a nap.

Yes, backside of the clock flying will still happen, but 91k will cause the need for more pilots because the companies are losing flexibility to ASAP any old crew to cover a trip. They have to plan ahead now. Good luck.

Please bear with. I've got a bunch of buds at NJ and am leaving the military in about 8 mos.

Is it too early to apply?

What is 91k?

thanks

Well... Some call it losing flexibility. I call it increasing the level of accountability on managements part.
