My buddy and I were just cruising down the beach there today, talking about the dangers of banner towing (and how dumb it was for Geico to pay for a banner to fly by a beach full of drunk college students). Then this happens. Strange!

See, this airplane-truck collision just goes to show that you should always try to set 'er down in the nearest school playground.

That's a funny one catyak, got some more good ones?

The pilot would have had more choices to land if he had been higher than a few hundred feet off the ground, read the article, he had just picked up the banner, a banner tow pilot is usually never higher than 1000' AGL.

Not sure what you do over at PRC, but we don't teach banner-towing here at DAB :)

This guy had some issues flying, apparently. I'm going to check to see if he's an active flight student here (or has been in the past year)...hang on...Nope, no record of him since the new info and scheduling system (ETA) came online (May 2003). My guess is that he's an off-campus flier that is getting his degree here.

Easy on the ERAU-DAB jabs, already :) We do good work here and we're quite proud of it.

Anyone want an instructor union?

I saw this story on Foxnews, it looks like one of the banner guys from Massey Ranch. I use to fly out of there, ain't much choice but to land on the roads.

Edit: Say aren't Riddle students prohibited from flying into Massey Ranch in Riddle planes? Not related to the topic, but just something that I recalled.

Glad to see they are teaching them well over there in DAB, what Im missin bein a PRC student.....

your definately better off there, I went to both campus'. PRC is by far the superior campus as far as attitude (not as many of the gung-ho topgun flyboy "living the dream" schlubs) and quality of instruction both flight and classroom (caveat: at least back in my day it was)

actually got in trouble once with the Dir. of Admissions, when someone I gave a tour to told a tour person in DAB what I said that IMHO from my experiences on both, the PRC campus was better. We both got over it, cause we knew it was the truth

Hey is good ol Col Fred still around?

Actually Crowbar HAD the best... that chick on the bike was AWESOME!!!! Now it is just OK. VERY disappointed... ;) :p :D

The plane was a banner-towing taildragger and NOT owned by ERAU. It was owned by the banner company out of Massey Ranch. The pilot was an ERAU student NOT in a flight course during the past year. We are still not allowed to land at Massey, although I'm not sure it mattered for this guy :)

I'm not really sure why the N-J put the "ERAU student" bit in there as the flight had essentially nothing (aside from association) to do with ERAU. I have never heard that guy's name around here (I've been here 3 years) and no one here seems to know the guy. It's a pretty small community, so I'm guessing that he's not a flight student here.

Funny how non-facts can creep into a story. Kinda like Iraqis into the 9-11 attacks. Guess if someone repeats it enough it becomes truth.

That guy cracked me up. Had three classes with him and loved every minute of them. "Hey gang" He was there in 2002 when I left. Hope he's still there.

I wonder if he worked for that Aerial Messages guy in Daytona....

merikeyegro, any chance of Riddle hiring any CFIs in the near future in DAB? I'm assuming they're going to furlough a few guys this summer like usual and won't be looking for anyone for a while.
