I had read a thread with the name of the Resume Writer that some of you had great things to say about. (I think her name is Kathy) Does anyone have that link?

I have a great opportunity that has come up and I need something done quickly, but I do not have time to do it myself.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for the info

Thank you for the information. I just got off the phone with Kathy. What a nice lady! Very thorough and professional.

She spent about 45 minutes on the phone with me getting all the info that she needed. She also brought up things that I do in my job that I didn't even think about. It's so nice to have someone help out that really understands what a pilot does and what is important to employers in our job.

She also was not expensive either, which makes a big difference to those of us that don't make the huge bucks! She also said she would have it to me right away so that I could apply for this position that closes on Monday. She took a great load off my shoulders!!

Thank you for posting that link so quickly. I'm glad to have this board and all the resources it provides. I highly recommend any pilots out there to contact her. She even has an 800 number! I will let everyone know about the finished product.

Wow!

Well, I wanted to let you all know that I was VERY pleased with the resume and cover letter that Kathy did for me. I never realized I could look so good on paper!

True to her word, she had it to me yesterday. I didn't even have to make any changes!

She was great to work with and very friendly. She gave me some other ideas in case this position doesn't work out. I highly recommend her services to all the pilots on this board.

Just an update - I turned in my resume and application for the position and was called immediately for an interview. The CP told me that they had gotten many resumes, but hadn't seen one that was layed out so professional. He said it was easy to read, got to the point and made his job easier by knowing exactly what I did in each job.

I called Kathy after the interview and told her I needed a thank you letter. She asked me in detail what the CP was like, what he seemed to want to know about my background, what I thought that the CP felt was important, their operation, etc. She put together a great thank you letter, I faxed it over and the next day was offered the job!

Kathy is so professional and helpful. I am so thankful to her that she was able to get my resume and cover letter so quickly so I didn't miss the deadline. She is a great resource!!

Hey All,

In response to what job I got, it is with a private real estate developer flying his Hawker. Sweet job with good bennies and pretty good pay!

Jeff

Just wanted to say thanks to New2Flying for the link and CorpFlyBoy67 for sharing his experience. You certainly were both correct (not that I doubted you;) )

Kathy recently put together a great package for me; night and day from what I had previously. True to her word on her website and voicemail when I first called, she spent close to an hour with me on the phone just getting to know what I had done and where I wanted to go. In addition to taking notes she offered advice and suggestions on avenues to pursue. Not only does she offer professional service, it was truly personal service. Something I know I could not have found anywhere else.

The completed resume was better than I expected; had to double check that it was indeed about me
:D

I've spoken with Kathy a few more times since, and each time she has been just as helpful and friendly as when I initially spoke with her (before she had my money ;))

Just wanted to bring this back to the top. As do others, I highly recommend her service. It is well worth the cost.

Kathy will likely end up getting into career counseling and job placement as well as resume writing...I can see her services going that way, based on my experiences with her. She is a very good networker!

At what time frame, hourly wise, would it be smart to give Kathy a call?

If I were to call now, would that be wasting the valuable money on a service that will do me no good now, or would it be smarter to wait until I have some more time under my belt?

Just looking for some opinions.

Thanks

I say always be prepared for the unexpected. What happens if suddenly you get a great job offer or the company you are working for decides to layoff people? Then you are going to be scrambling to get the resume prepared. I know she works with all kinds of pilots, from very low time pilots to pilots who have been furloughed. My next question would be...what are your goals?

Another Satisfied Customer!

Well, I am a Kathy convert also! :D

This lady answered her phone on a Saturday! We spoke for almost an hour. She gave me some good ideas - not only about flying jobs, but also if I wanted to transition to another career. She talked to me about skills I have as a pilot that would be good in other careers. I am having her write me two different resumes so I can apply for other things besides flying.

She also gave me some information on the Workforce Investment Act, which gives training in another field to people that have been laid off due to 9/11. She told me who to contact and how to get the ball rolling.

Kathy is a wealth of information! I highly recommend any pilots to give her a call. She is very nice and always answers her phone ready to help. I agree with everyone else on this thread that she is very professional and helpful.

Seems like a great service and I am sure it does produce results in many cases. I just wonder though if they are "individually unique" to each person or if it is pretty much the same wording, text, and layout for everyone that uses this service. Reason I am asking is that I know of someone who sent my company a resume and they (many) saw right through it and most came to the conclusion that someone else was probably behind it since it was pretty much over kill and was also doctored up extremely well... I have never used a service like this since I was always bothered by the "what if" of whether or not the company will catch on and see that I did not do my own resume and then bring up the question at some point. I guess though if each is "different" and "unique" to that person then my post is not very relevant at all. Oh well, just curious...

Good Point - However...

That is a good point that you bring up, but I am sure that not every pilot has the same background. Based on the posts in this thread, it seems that she has helped a lot of people. Further, if I get asked that question, I will let them know that my talent is in flying, not writing. I use the resources that are available to me to present my qualifications to make their job easier.

I mean, would they hire a plumber to fly their airplane? haha

Kathy charges flat rates for her services. A pilot resume is $75. Her cover letters are $40. The resume she is writing for me to transition to another career is $150.00

I think I am going to do some interview counseling with her for a different career so that I can answer the questions that a "regular company" would ask me. That service is $100 for an hour. The way she explained it to me is that she provides formulas, so to speak, for answering situational questions, she asks you questions and then evaluates your answers and suggests ways to improve them.

I know she hired for 6 years prior to owning her business, which I think she has been doing for about 16 or 17 years. The thing I like about her best is she does not "force" any services on you. She makes suggestions and then lets you decide. She also has provided a lot of insight to me without charging me.

My best suggestion is to go to her website. She has many articles on her site and it also explains what services she provides. Here is her basic website address www.awriteresume.com and her 800 number is 866-726-9052. Just call her and see what she can do for you! :)

Well,

this has been quite a Kathy Love fest. Me, I'm cynical....and I probably have a little too much free time, but I took a look at the posts by the biggest Kathy fans.

FreqFlyerJD has only posted to threads in which Kathy is the subject.

Of Corpflyboy67's 11 posts, all but 2 have been to threads which discussed commercial preparation of employment material.

The preponderance of New2flying's posts have been to threads whicch centered around employment issues.

Odd isn't it how many of these "happy customers" seem to have an indepth knowledge af Kathy's history, and the additional services she provides. So, is this a coincidence, or is Kathy a busy little writer, with several nom-de-plumes? It's a shame the ISP's aren't available to non-moderators on this forum, that might be interesting.

You decide, go back and read the posts with the view that they *might* be satisfied customers, or they *might* be the same person trying to sell her services.
