Ok, I am looking for a little clarification on what some of you put down under "total instrument time" on your resume. I may have been shorting myself on mine.

I recently saw the following on a website that was hiring pilots...
> 100 hours instrument (at least 75 in flight).

By instrument time, what do they mean?
actual + sim time + hood time = instrument?

I was always under the impression that they meant actual + hood time, and had never included my sim time.

Thanks for your help.

Somone correct me if I am wrong but SIMULATOR time is class C or better. If not it is hood+actual......

That is what I count.....

Take care

I believe, and I may be way off base here that Flight Training Device time ie AST300, Frasca etc etc can only be logged with an instructor as Dual Given/ received and total time.
Actual Instrument time in an A/C is logged as actual and if one is already rated PIC, and hood time is not logged as Actual time but Simulated Hood and Total time
Again I may be way off base here ....

FTD included in total time? Really? Anyone else do this?

I've always been logging FTD and PCATD as "Simulator" and nothing else. It is not included in my total time. Now I'm wondering how everyone else logs it.

I have my FTD and PCATD logged as similar time also.
But when they want total instrument time, I add simulated + actual =)

.

Pretty sure that FTD or PCATD time can count under sim time, but no as instrument time - except in the remarks section ;)

I've been told to stick to actual instrument only as instrument time as per resume / application.

- ? Not even sure if sim can count towards total time - can it ? -

Personally, I break it down into three items in my logbook and resume.

Actual IFR
Simulated IFR
Simulator

That seems to be acceptable. It does make it easier to keep track of.

PCATD, Frasca, etc., time doesn't count toward total time, but 20 can be applied toward the total time requirements when getting an instrument rating. I think that's where the confusion occurs...and I'm sure countless pilots have unknowingly "padded" their total times by doing this.

Sim time v. instrument time

This is ambiguous. Instrument time is time obtained during flight by reference to instruments, either in actual instrument conditions or in simulated instrument conditions. Anything else is sim or ground trainer time. Moreover, flight time is flight time, i.e., obtained in an aircraft.

Don't worry, you have the correct impression.

My FTD time is logged but not towards my total time. I do log towards my TT Level C/D Simulator time.
