Republic Airways file federal suit against pilots union

wasnt CHA that fired pilots out of seniority back in 2001 from the saab fleet. They kept junior jet fos.

They said those pilots were probationary pilots and they just could do that.

True....although I believe it was an "act of war" clause that was implemented in the aftermath of 9/11. This basically was a loophole, like so many in the contract, to get around having to retrain pilots on different equipment. Cheaper to fire than to train pilots with longevity that would go in at a higher hourly rate and displace other pilots that would incurring moving and other various expenses.

Quite possibly one of the most immoral and disgusting things I have ever witnessed in this industry. I can think of a few almost equally detestable things that have occurred through the years in this industry and oddly enough, at least half of them have been brought on by RAH. And no matter what the reverend puts out in a memo referring to his spotless virtues,I personally will not ever forget that moot fact. He fired good hardworking pilots out of seniority to save a dollar.

I wish www.rahcontractnow.org was on Wiki so that little fact could be added to the laundry list of unconscionable things RAH has done to the very people that have built it.

Holy crap. They're suing you guys over THAT website???? When I clicked the link, I thought I was going to see some crazy site that had all kinds of exaggerations and perhaps questionably illegal statements like fly 30 mile finals with the gear down or stop picking up overtime or whatever. But all the site does is tell a little history and warn guys of what is going on. The Reverend can sue over such a tame site???? Is he that desperate? What's next? Is he going to sue me for discouraging my kids from getting into aviation?

They need to put on the contractnow website the fact that they were sued by airline management simply for putting the site up..... especially if they win the suit.

I think every current pilot should apply to Republic, get the interview, then no show, just to flood them with a bunch of what they think are potential pilots, so it makes it very hard for them to find the ones (newbies to the industry) willing to work at Republic for real...

5 years sounds fairly short to me as I look at possibly 7+. I guess it is a matter if perspective.

I've been here OVER 4 years with 600+ FO's above me. Now, let's see if anybody can venture a guess based on that how likely an upgrade will occur by my 5th year? Bueller..., Bueller?

I did however send in a formal, signed, letter saying I accepted a job elsewhere and still got a nasty email from the HR lady that hired me admonishing me for no showing. Keep it classy.

Last I heard they could've been released in December! That's been almost four months ago. When is there a meeting set up with the Mediator. And good luck... Hopefully you can get some work rules in place. Its sad reading that!

I don't suppose this particular suit has anything to do with their lawyers having to pull the unilateral FO payraise off the table, embarrassing the company in front of a collection of already-skeptical prospective newhires? Just, y'know, throwing that out there.

That "five years" comment really ought to be rewritten. The rapid fire game of Upgrade Musical Chairs ended a while ago, so the current upgrade time doesn't sound so bad on it's face. Point out that it's five years and growing fast, with flying being dropped and a management team with no idea how to get themselves out of their mess other than to keep flogging their employees. Emphasizing the routine abuses allowed against the bottom of the seniority list under a contract written with a two-year upgrade in mind would paint a more complete picture, too.

The NMB doesn't release groups from mediation anymore, it's essentially become an endless process where you don't get an agreement unless you accept the company offer. Strikes are a thing of the past, the corporations have won government protection from work stoppages. The RLA has been bastardized and the NMB has become nothing more than a wage control board. Unions don't have any leverage anymore.

The strike at Spirit didn't disrupt "the system" like a strike at RAH would. AA, CAL, UAL, USAirways, DAL would all be significantly interrupted and therefore RAH will never be released.

Good point, there's an exception to every rule but more groups have been in mediation for longer periods of time than at any point in history. There hasn't been any group that I know of released since Spirit.
