I will never forget that airport as long as i live, I used to go visit my GF every weekend when her job moved her. I was on final and a down burst came out of nowhere and slammed me into the asphalt, I thought the gear collapsed for sure. Unbeleivable, all I lost was some paint on the gear legs from the downward slam fest.

I wouldn't doubt that was a contributing factor since the tree lines and mountains are so close, i guess will see in the report.

God bless the family, what a terrible tragidy.:(

I heard about it, I live right next to MQY, where the aircraft was based at Wings of Eagles, and have gone to JWN a couple times. I'm sorry to hear the news.

Update on the fatal accident

Here's the latest report from Channel 5 News:

http://www.newschannel5.com/content/news/11281.asp

The boy that was left on the ground, waiting his turn for a ride, said they were just going to take a quick look at Nashville from the air in their friend's Super Cub.

That's what I read over at Jet Carrers.

I couldn't find a thread on it at Jet Careers. In what section is it located?

All I've read elsewhere is that the pilot was trained at Wings. Haven't seen anything that mentions the N-number nor owner/operator of the airplane.

Have you flown the DA20 that's based at Tune? 548, I think? I'm wondering how it compares the 158MA at MQY. Is it the newer design with the inertial reel shoulder harnesses, bigger glare sheild, etc.?

I found this is the News 4 article linked to above.

The plane was a Piper Super Cub registered to ABACO LLC of Nashville and was manufactured in 1965, said Kathleen Bergen of the Federal Aviation Administration. According to state records, the company was registered in 1996 by John R. Cheadle Jr., a Nashville attorney.

John R. Cheadle Jr. is the pilot's father. Wing's Cub, N6762B, is registered to Dale Cambell of Nashville.

Iused to work at MQY and flew into JWN on a regular basis. Sorry to hear the sad news. Condolences to the families...

sounds like slow flight, power on stall....tragic. one of the reasons why i never like to turn a small aircraft on takeoff until i have cleared well above Vs1, and then some...

I've flown 548DC several times, it's a sweet airplane. I don't know about the glareshield, but it has the inertial reel shoulder harnesses.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of these two young fellows.
