Greetings all,

I'm looking into buying an electronic logbook to install on my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on which one to buy? What are some advantages/disadvantages? I've looked a little at Logbook Pro. Does anyone suggest this one?

Thanks,
Jon

I have used Aerolog Pro for many years and have been quite happy with it. It has a PDA module that allows you to record your times on your PDA then hotsnyc them into the logbook.

I too, have used AeroLog since the days of the DOS version, although I have upgraded a couple of times, and now use AeroLog Pro along with it's PDA Companion.

I'm still testing out Logbook Pro, so I don't know all of the features, but it seems to be pretty powerful. What all are looking for a logging program to do?

Yes. It will allow you to "filter" just about any type of time you like. PIC, SIC, night, instrument, x-country, MEL, SEL, MES, SES, specific aircraft type, specific aircraft N-number, just about anything you can think of.

However, to be fair...this is nothing exclusive to AeroLog Pro. I would think any electronic logbook would be able to do this. Even the home made ones created via Excel.

Logbook pro does the same things as Aerolog Pro...as someone else has said already. I love LBP, it works great for me, and i too hot sync it with my IPAQ. It is very nice to have, keeps great track of things, god knows i can't do it on my own.

Try them both out, i know LBP has a free 50 or 100 entry trial you can download, i am sure Aerolog would have something similar. Then make the decision based on your experience with the trials.

It's pretty hard to beat Logshare.com .

It's web based with an excel compatable local backup function.

It's as good or better than a lot of commercial products, and its free.

Question for all of you who use logbook pro...

Do you use the pda version as well? If so, do you use the logbook pro program, or the airline pilots daily aviation log? What do you think of the two?

Since going over to the pda, I have used the pda version instead of the airline pilots logbook. A lot less writing. Plus since ALP (at least) does the math, it also eliminates most of the errors.

The biggest thing is to find one that does everything that you need it to plus anything that you will want it to do in the future. Because they all use different database systems and it has been my experience that conversion is not possible. So get a program that will grow with you.

Logbook Pro is the most flexible and maintained of all that I've checked out. I also like all the support from third party products for Logbook Pro. Auman Software's Airline Pilot Logbook for the Palm directly sync's with Logbook Pro for 121'ers, or you can use the Palm or Pocket PC versions with Logbook Pro as well. I also got a personalized binder which was a great impression in my recent interview and I think they also have some utility that shows all your flights overlaid on maps. Lot's of support and links to Logbook Pro, seems to be the most popular and pushed hard by Flightinfo.com'ers.
