Well, guys, I have been buying and using RayBans for over 16 years, but I have bought my last pair. They used to have a premium product, and, if you had any problem, customer service was top notch. Well, those days have definitely come to an end.

Seems ever since they were bought by Luxotica (an Italian company) the service center has changed their attitude 180 degrees. If you have a problem now, just wait until you get to deal with these people. You're not a customer, you're a problem.

After refusing to repair a defective pair under warranty, they said to send an additional $32.50 (on top of the non-refundable $10.00 "evaluation" charge), and they would replace them . . . .

Paid my charges, waited yet a few more weeks, guess what arrived in the mail -almost 7 weeks later? That's right- my old, broken glasses. When I called the Sefvice Center, and asked them to send the replacement pair (which I had already paid for) they refused to do so until I sent in (yet again) the same broken pair they had sent me by mistake!

When I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was given the voice mail of some clown who has yet to return my call after three days of leaving a mesage each day.

Bottom line- buy Oakleys, or any other brand besides RayBans or Revos, and buy them directly from the manufacturer or from anyone other than Sunglass Hut (which, like Ray BAn, is owned by Luxotica). Here is an address of a place I buy from that is about half the pice of Sunglass Hut, anyway:

I was clumsy enough to slam my overcoat in my car door last winter. My Ray Bans were in the pocket and one lens got shattered. I took them to Lens Crafters, thinking I'd pay $40 for a new lens (I'd owned the glasses for two years). The friendly staff at Lens Crafters replaced the lens, and tightened the screws in the frame...all free of charge.

I felt guilty when I left because I hadn't even bought the Ray Bans there. When the time comes, they'll definately be at the top of my list of retailers to purchase corrective lenses/sunglasses from.

The best part about your story is that they saved you from having to deal with the dreaded RayBan "Customer Service Center".

The service center people would have probably broken the remaining lens, and then kicked you in the nuts- and charged you $42.50 for the "privilege". . . . . .

The best source for pilot eyewear, hands down, is Hidalgo's. They don't have a web site, but they'll send you a catalog- 1-800-786-2021. You can get Ray Ban, Serengeti, Gargoyle, Randolph Engineering, and other brands in either prescription or non-prescription. They have lots of options available so you can customize your pair and get just what you want. I've used them for years and they've done a great job.

I had similar dis-service and have had to get 2 new pairs of glasses. I send the 2nd pair back and said I wasn't going to pay any fees. To my surprise I actually did get a 2nd pair. I like Oakley's as well but with plastic lenses they scratch so **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** easy. I alternate between my Oakleys and Ray Bans in the sky. Flying I actually like the Ray Ban's better but the lack of quality and crappy customer service really does piss me off.

Word to the wise... They aren't worth what they charge these days. Best price I found on the web was this site.

Shades

I just bought a new pair of Ray Ban "Predators" from the Sunglass Slut. I love them.

I might be broke and not have a job, BUT I got some cool shades.

Not long ago, one of those consumer geeks, ClarkHoward.com, I think, did a UV compare of the top of the line Ray Bans, Serengettis, etc with the no-names. I remember that they all offered about the same UV protection which I didn't want to believe. I still wear Ray Bans but now I can't say it's because they protect my eyes better.

About 3 months ago I dropped my Ray Bans and chipped the lens. They told me they would repair them for $10 which I felt was fair so I sent them in. A few weeks later instead of getting my old repaired glasses back I received a brand new pair of sunglasses worth about $120. I felt it was above and beyond what I expected and well worth the $10.

I paid my money, yet sit here 7 weeks later, out an additional $42.50 (plus $10.00 more in postage for re-sending them).

I can;t believe you guys are spending $120.00 or more on them, though, you can buy their most recent styles all over the web for around $89.00 and have 'em in three days . . . . . just hope you never need 'em fixed.
