Where can I find info about a Radio station license requirement? We all know that it is a required document to have onboard but I can't find it in the regs anywhere. Anybody have a link I can try? Thanks.

falls under FCC regulation

from http://wireless.fcc.gov/aviation/

In accordance with the provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the FCC released final rules in WT Docket No. 96-82 on October 25, 1996, eliminating the radio station licensing requirement for certain aircraft operating domestically.

still required for internation operations though...

Radio station license is required for most (if not all) international flying.

I got mine, but ive always wondered why its required. You dont have to do anything for it. I mean, my little sister could call up and get one, so whats the purpose. Just another way for the government to get ahold of some of your money.

This is different than the individual restricted radio operator permit. There is also a radio station license that belongs in the airplane on international flights.

Not free

The station license is easy to get. You can do the request via the FCC's web site, but it will cost you $100.

Thanks for the info everyone. I haven't instructed in a while and all the aircraft I fly now leaves the country so we have a license for our fleet. I wasn't aware that you don't need one if you only fly domestically, good idea though.
