I was hopeing someone could enlighten me on the rigors of the Jalways pre-employment flight medical at the Mayo clinic. how stringent are they on hearing, what eye tests do they do, and any other gotchas. Do you go thru the astronaut physical every six months or is it back to the usual first class exam? Thanks for the input,

Jalways-

I went through the entire interview process with IASCO for Jalways to inlclude the physical at Mayo. Yes, it is the astronaut version, you can't hide anything. If for some reason you are questionable in one area they send you to Tokyo for a "re-check" with their Doc's.

I passed the physical but ended up passing on the job offer. The training is far too long, commuting would be difficult at best and I was not interested in living in HNL. Let me know if you have any additional ????

You go through the full Spaceman physical before being offered the job then again at the completion of training. After that it is a physical every 6 months and a full eye check. Much more involved than the average FAA physical but not nearly as tough as the pre-employment one. They do a full blood check every 6 months as well to check cholesterol and a number of other things. I have not heard of anyone failing the physical in the two years that I have been here but there is always a first time. WASINC pays for 50,000 in lost liscense insurance. If you lose your medical than you would get a payout. Also losing your JCAB medical has no impact whatsoever on your FAA ticket. I don't think that IASCO and HACS have the same insurance.

As for the contract all three companies do things slightly differently. It all amounts to the same financial pie, just sliced up differently.

The most important thing to remember is: If they can't prove it, it didn't happen and if they can't find it, it's not there. Check NO to everything.

The only gotcha is what you can't hide in your blood. I learned from my results that I do NOT have syphillis.
