Well, I have never jumpseated on you guys so today I called the regular 800 number to list. The question is do you guys outsource your res calls to India? After getting a rep on the phone, and I was very polite and respectful, but it was like pulling teeth. Her english was barely understandable. She proceeded to list me and asked for all my info then gave me a price to buy the ticket at. I gave up on the call and called back and the exact same thing happened. So, is there another number I can call to list? I appriciate the info in advance

You don't have to list to jumpseat on UAL. All you have to do is present yourself at the departure gate.

Was her accent as bad as the guy I heard flying "Jet'aBlue" recently. Of course he was answering his radio calls, they were just unintelligible.

The question is. Do you guys clean your own cabins?

Just curious on what advantage you get for listing yourself on a UAL jumpseat. Isn't it first come-first serve at the gate for off-line jumpseaters? Someone who knows let me know.

Jesus guys.....I did not mean for this to become a bash fest. I am not saying anything bad about united in whole, other than on sunday morning I tried to list...because that is what I usually do when I non rev and the 2 times I called it sounded like the calls were sent overseas to india. Both times, they did not know how to list me and went through the proceedures that you would go through to buy a ticket. At the end of the call they kindly gave me a price for the ticket and asked how I would like to pay. It was frusterating to say the least. Now, yes we have a few folks whose english is not perfect but so does every airline. Once again, I was not trying to bash UAL..they have always been good to me in the past when I flew on them as a customer, I was just simply pointing out that I had a problem trying to list. As for you 32...why? I have no problem with you. Why do you have to turn this into a god damm bash fest. You dont like us...we get it. But you dont have to jump on every thead that has jetblue involved with it to put us down. I have been professional on this board and tried to not vent... I try to not get to involved with the bs discussions that go on here but this is getting old. Please knock it off. There is no need for bashing. Just trying to get some info and point out why I had a problem.

Get a life, Gary. Why don't you go back to your JBLU bashing on the UAL ALPA board where you can't hide behind an annomyous name?

Long -- I commuted on UAL for a while and there is no number like 32 said. I did call the res number however from time-to-time and politely say I am trying to jumpseat and if she/he could tell me if it looked okay or not. I too had trouble with the people on the phone when it comes to understanding english. Who knows? You certainly ain't gonna get a straight answer from "Gary", is it?

Just go to Orbitz to get a rough idea of the seats available, or be like me, drive somewhere that you can commute online.

UAL always treated me right. Just glad 32 wasn't the capt.

Thanks..trying to get to CA to see some family for the week. Appriciate it.

Try 1-800-UAL-LIST and mash buttons till you get an operator. No need to list in advance but you can get load information.

Adios

Unless someone has better info, I don't think you gain anything by listing for a United jumpseat. Go to United.com, find your flight, sign in as a guest, and you can see the seats available.

I doubt that T10 is Gary. Plus he doesn't bash JBLU on the ALPA board.

I had a gate agent in DEN about a year ago say she could not put me on unless I was listed. So I called 800-UAL-LIST right at the gate, listed, then she put me on. That's the only time that has ever happened though. The way CASS works, it just takes them a second and I don't think they care if you are listed or not...mostly.

Had a full fare ticket going on UAL from IAD to BOS. TRWs all over the place between those two places and IFR in BOS. It's late afternoon and co-pilot gets on in a heavy mexican accent and says that were ready to roll on time. I didnt think he checked with clnc yet and as his accent was pretty thick and his english was bad, I decided to listen to your channel 9 or whatever your ATC thing is and see how that was going to work out (I never listen to that, but this was one time that I knew it was going to be interesting and embarrassing). His announcement over that PA was truly embarrassing....you would have cringed had you heard that 32LT10. Cptn came on a few minutes later (in good ENGLISH) and announced a 1:30 min delay....as I would have expected. Well, dont think I have ever heard a gnd controller chew anyone out as hard as they did in IAD with your mexican kid there. Controller said, "Just stop right there!" and it only got better from there. Anyway, in flight (as I knew it would be interesting) controller reads off a new clnc....Paco mis reads the clnc and they start going to the wrong fix. I was just about to tell the FA to tell Paco that he's going the wrong way and then the clnc changed again.

Dont bag on the JBLU guys when you have em there at UAL too.

You know, the gent only asked a legitimate question about listing and having trouble with the outsourced agent's english.

Is that any reason to start yet another uncalled-for JetBlue bash?

Please act like adults here, folks. 32, I don't expect to hear anything else from you negative (cabin cleaning, etc) unless you want to go take another vacation.

And no piling on 32 in retribution, either, gang...

Well I showed up about 17 minutes before push the other day and got left behind cause "I don't have time to list you as a standby passenger."

What say you?

And BTW.... Yeah, I help clean the cabin, I toss a few bags, grab a stroller now and then and push a wheelchair when my fellow employee needs my help. So what? Are you too good to help your brother out?

Had a similar experience not too long ago. I quit using UAL. Commuting is hard enough without getting a hard time from the gate agents.

I have also gotten to the gate literaly a minute or two before closing the door at USair and had them bust arse to get me on. Kudos to the USair folks.

While we're at it- I was out playing on the West Coast last week, and caught three rides on Delta. Actually had an agent put me up in First, and all three flight crews and cabin crews were very professional, despite the recent turmoil over there. Many thanks to all, and I got the opportunity to return the favor by putting a commuting Delta FO up in Biz today.

Ty, thanks. My backup to CA is DAL but the flight leaves 2 hours later. I may do that if the UAL thing does not work. Either way, I will let you all know how it worked out.

A lot of us at UAL do indeed help out when and where we can, I for one try to go up to the boarding area and see if any pilots are around that are trying to jumpseat, I am sorry that our CSR's are not the most friendly, but we will put you in FIRST CLASS if we can and take as many as open seats will allow.
BTW-The CSR's are not the friendly even to our own UAL crews, so I know what you are all talking about.

Some of you guys might try to "intercept" the crew as we are heading down the Jetway, that way we know you are trying to get a ride.

We are not all "High and Mighty" at UAL. Some of us are just regular WHITE BOYS trying to make a living.

If Ty wants a ride, GREAT! Maybe he can give me back the $25 bucks Airtran never refunded me when I had to buy the "extra" jumpseat and the flight ended up full. (Just a lil Jab Ty....relax)

I have been riding UAL every SAT. this month. Sat in First Class 2 times and was given an Exit Row another. All the crews were very nice and we were always early.

Thanks again for the rides!!!

I don't think this was so much a question of bad crews but more about bad gate agents. Most crews, 32 excluded, have common sense and know most of us are just doing our job and trying to get to work.

That is too bad. I go out of my way to accomodate jumpseaters. But I know now of who to be suspect of and maybe not be so helpful.

Sonny, I like the "WHITE BOYS" in capital letters. I am reading yah loud and clear.

I was on here asking a serious question, nothing more nothing less. Let’s please not let this turn into a jump seat war/bitter argument between group, that is not what we need. We are all pilots trying to get to/from work via the easiest way possible. Making it intentionally hard on our fellow pilots does nothing more than create stress and frustration in an already hostile industry. This thread needs to come to an end. Thanks everyone for their input.

Since nobody asked the question yet, I will. How much was the ticket from the Reservation Agent in another land?

Cheers!

I asked about your question and the listing issue with a company guy. The word I got was if you call the line to list, just say you want to list as a NON-REV versus a jumpseat. We do not have a listing ability for the jumpseat for even ourselves so it is a foreign term to foreign people. He mentioned that if you did list as a non-rev it would be OK as the jumpseat processing for unlimited takes the data from a non-rev type listing.

I was trying to BUY a ticket using the employee 20% discount program - which has been around for a long time by the way - and it took 4 separate calls to get through to anyone who spoke and understood english and the employee 20 discount program.

I was ready to pull my hair out by the time the 4th person comprehended. Wow!!! That has been my experience whenever I invoke Reservations for any reason.

On the same note, I've had to abandon US Airways reservations for this reason also.
