Back in 2000 I was offered an interview, but declined (which I regret deeeeply)because I was hired at one of those legacy carriers and was in training. I am reluctant to put money down on a type because I feel that might affect me getting an interview or a job offer, any comments? Wia didn't help because I was told by my state official, " we do not want to take responsibility to train terrorists" and you can figure out the rest of the story.

I'd call SW people dept

and ask them about your decision in 2000. Whats it going to hurt? They say sorry no second chances ( which I doubt) you save $$ from the type or you are not penalized for your 2000 decision and the 737 type will help your chances to interview.

SWPD would give you facts, this web board will give you opinions.

I'm sure there are others that have your same delima which turned down a SW interview previously.

From what I have heard, it is near impossible to get an interview without the type rating right now. I'm not saying it can't be done its just that the numbers are stacked against you. I am a first year SWA F/O who just completed training and that was the response I was given when I asked folks around the schoolhouse and People Dept. that question.

Mach Zero is correct. There is an ever-increasing number of applicants with type-ratings awaiting an interview. The type-rating business is booming! I suggest you do what the earlier post said, call Lindsey and ask her. BTW, I am on the interview team, and I would ask you why you turned the interview down. If you told me you were in training with another carrier, that would be a perfectly acceptable response to me.

Cheers

I have a friend that was invited to an interview in 98 and turned it down for the same reasons. He is interviewing this week. As a former member of the interview team I would also find that to be an acceptable answer and would imagine most if not all the interviewers would also.

Best of luck.

SWADude, I am a SWA wannabe. I interviewed back in "01" did not get it. Any Idea how many folks coming through the PD are getting 2nd and 3rd chances at the interview? Thanks!

I was invited to interview in Sep or Oct 2001, which was obviously cancelled due to 9/11. If memory serves me correctly, shortly afterwards SWA reimplemented the type requirement to interview and thus I was not rescheduled to interview.

In 2001 I had NO type and less experience than I have today. I now have a type and much more experience, but now I cannot seem to get noticed. Seems that if I was qualified to be interviewed without a type in 2001, that I should be able to get in now with a type!

Any suggestions?

Bluefin,

Dont stress it. My situation was very similiar. I was in training when offered the interview, so I regrettably had to pass. I got the type after 9/11 and am now sitting in the pool! Be ready to talk about it in the interview -- it will be addressed.

No I really don't. I just know that 2nd and 3rd chances are happening. From the guy thats heading up the interview team they don't look at interviewing before as a negative. Keep trying and keep updating.

Good luck.
