New 121 pilot here trying to jumpseat on either American or Delta through DFW. I have had a tough time finding your jumpseat policies for a regional pilot (not affilated with either carrier). Thanks everybody in advance for your help.
I can speak for the Delta policies--for a 121 regional carrier--not Comair/ASA/Skywest/ACA---you are allowed to use a seat in the back, and the number of jumpseaters depends on the number of jumpseats in the cockpit (yeah, that sucks, but they want huge paycuts right now and I doubt they will give us unlimited for awhile). The 767-400s, 777s, MD-11s (almost gone), and INTL 767-300ER's have two jumpseats. Any INTL flight over 8 hours has a second FO---so really there is only one jumpseat available on those longer flights. The jumpseat can be obtained in advance by Delta line pilots on the phone, not in seniority order--but first come first serve (on the phone). If there is a jumpseater signed up, try to talk to him/her at the gate adn see if they will give it up for you--as long as there are other seats in the back. Most will do that I believe, unless there are no extra seats in the back. Good luck.
Do you think DAL or any of the other big carriers will ever go to unlimited jumpseats even with big concessions? American and United both took big concessions and both have pretty similar jump seat policies to Delta. It seems like the smaller airlines- both LCCs and feeders have much more liberal jump seat policies even with many less potential seats to offer. Do you know if any of the big carriers are working on this? It really hurts watching a half-full airplane go without me- though I do greatly appreciate all of the free rides I've gotten on the big carriers I've jumped and I've rarely had to watch.

I would suggest checking with your jumpseat committee. Besides, although the info is not tough to find, these things are best left off public boards. Sorry for being to sensitive. You never know, there may be another Abignale out there with worse intentions.
I don't think I gave out any "special" info---the ID's still have to be verified etc.....
JTF,
I don't know if they will ever work that out, but we just got our jumpseat in the '96 contract, so we are happy to have atleast one. I would say get their early, and if a Delta guy or ASA/COMAIR/Skywet guy is already on there--ask him to use a "pass." They should be able to do that. I think we will be asking for unlimited jumpseats eventually. Good luck and show up early....
Point taken. I thought I'd just try to make sure it didn't go much further.
My main point is, if a new guy wants good, initial, JS info, don't forget to ask your jumpseat committee. If they are on the ball they should have a lot of good info. At least make sure your company is on the reciprical list of the airline that you are trying to JS on.
