A fellow employee just got back from a visit to the boneyard and had a couple of questions about the Navy's S3 and A6.

1. On the A6 there is a light with a red lense (looks like a wing tip type nav light) just forward of the windscreen, pointing forward. What is this light for?

2. On the S3 there is an arrangement of lights again just forward of the windscreen point toward the pilot. I guessed these were probably AOA lights?

Thanks!

It's the inflight refueling probe light. So that you can see to duel with the various refueling baskets (other Intruders, S-3, KC-135, etc). I always thought that it was probably better not to see what you were doing.
