Of course they do. Usually switch legs. One leg, ca flys and does his/her duties and fo does radios and his her duties. Next leg they change, fo flys and ca does radios etc. There may be some company limitations such as runway length, weather, time in ac etc... but for the most part you will get plenty of flying as an FO.

As a FO you do about 60% of the work. You do the preflight/post flight, get the ATIS, get the clearance, do the load manifest, start the left engine, make the calls to ramp, ground, tower. You do just as much flying as the Captain. You have to fill out the flight log and clean up the cockpit when you leave the airplane.

Oh yea...and what he said. Great points!!

It's the FOs job to take responsibility for the hard landings and give credit to the Captain for the good landings, no matter who was flying at the time. ;)

Clean up the cockpit, LOL, not where I work

As an FO you are an active crew member and fly half the time plus other taska which are simple. Basically you and the Captain should have good communication and work together to make decisions and solve problems (unless you fly with one of those micro manager ****************************************).

What are the typical duties of a regional FO, and do they ever fly the plane at all?

If you want to fly, just come to PCL and let me know that you are one of those I LOVE FLYING types. I'll let you fly ALL the legs.

Come over Dude. We will let you work as much as your heart desires

I'm going to hold you to that, DP.

You must learn to say after each landing by the CA, "That was a hell of a crosswind. Little bit of shear, too!"

If you never flew how would you get the experience to upgrade to captain? All we do is talk on the radio and get the gear. Yeah right..... Thankfully I am married so I don't have to take the ugly one. She gets left at the door... I am sure the world is shocked that the FO was flying the airplane in the Comair accident. I thought the Co-pilot was only there in case the Pilot had a heart attack.....

I was told this when I got into crew flying. This is All you need to know.

1. It must have been the wind.
2. Why, yes I like fish.
3. I love fat chicks.

I've had a certain captain in MEM want me to fly all the legs. I didn't care at the time, but I wouldn't do it everytime! I also like it when a captain lets me start the engines and doesn't take control as soon as the wheels touch down.

There's only 3 things I wanna hear outta your mouth:
1. Clear right.
2. Your right.
3. I get the fat one.

ASA pilots know "Beal"?

To the FO: "The only reason why you're here is I cain't reach that switch"!
To the F/A: "The only reason why you're here is they cain't fit a coke machine in the galley"!

He's only kidding, of course. Give it right back to him and you'll have a new best friend.

Funny. Over here the FO does absolutely nothing buy fly. QX doesn't trust their FO's to do as much as filling out a fuel slip not to mention filling out a load manifest or any other paperwork.

This is one easy job.......

Clear right
Nice Landing
NO NO NO LEFT!! LEFT!!
do you want a wake up call?
Wadaya wanna do cap? divert? hold?
Was that for us?

Sums up my day

Taking one for the team by taking the ugly or fat one? That implies that there are good looking or skinny FAs out there. From my experience, they were few and far between.
