I recently inquired about ATP's MEI course ($995 Two Day Program) and was told to expect about 3-4 hours of flight time BEFORE the checkride.

They use Seminoles and I have no time in one. The minimums for the program require at least 15 hours PIC in multiengine aircraft, which I have, but don't you need 5 hrs PIC in make & model for the checkride? Going by their program I'd be short an hour or so!

I appreciate any response!

P.S.
Any good word about ATP? I've never dealt with them.

In 1999 I used them to do my ATP (Trenton, NJ). The program was 2 days and pretty much painless. At the time I was flying 135 PIC in a Navajo. The course was pretty much canned, we basically spent time flying the same approaches and manuevers as what I saw on the checkride on the second day.

The oral part of the ride was from the info/study packet they give you on multi-eng stuff and the PA-44. Just know that cold and the oral is cake.

One thing I'd like to add is that the instructor has alot to do with your outcome. The guy I got knew his stuff and the program which made it alot easier. I had a friend that used them in JAX in 2000 and his results were opposite of mine as he said his instructor sucked.

All in all, I'd use them again. I'm considering using them to do my CFII and MEI (I need to renew my CFI shortly) so If you use them for your MEI let me know.

Hope it helps

Take Care.

I did mine in Houston last year. Other than the wx sucks at that time, everything was pretty smooth. They were overbooked, so i had to split ground with another students, but since I went prepared, so didn't need much help there. They give you a supplemental study guide, if you study it, the oral will be piece of cake. On the 1st day 8am, you pay, then you do the w&b, then you go over the oral questions. After that, you start preflight and fly.

All maneuvers was commercial standard, except you do it on the right side, and the examiner didn't really expect much in instruction skills, cuz they know you got your CFI. Just came prepared, know all a/s, know ATP's callouts, then you'll be fine. Don't worry about not knowing the airspace, the instructor and the examiner knows that, and they give you vectors all the way through. If you need more info, pm me.

If you need any ratings overnight, call ATP:)

No, you only need the 5 hours int he make and model to instruct in furtherance of a certificate or rating...

And make sure you know exactly what you can/cannot get from them. You get 4.0 on the Hobbs before the checkride. Any more than that and you've got to pay more for it.

I did my MEI with them. Not too bad. The instructor was awful (actually, just VERY inexperienced), but he knew exactly what the examiner was going to want from me. It was pretty darn painless, expect for all those callout they wanted you to make. C'mon--saying "400' Gear Down-Stabilized" doesn't actually make it so. But then again, I'm pretty much a hippie of a pilot :)
