Can you be based outa HNL?

I don't work for Atlas, although I'd like to. So don't take this to the bank. And it's very possible that something has changed since, but this is an excerpt from their CBA regarding "gateway basing";

b. A Crewmember whose residence is outside the contiguous forty-eight (48) states or Alaska will not be eligible for Gateway Travel

Although the question has been asked my me, and others multiple times concerning living in places outside the realm/scope of the ACMI's that have gateway/homebasing.

The usual answer seems to be that you can live anywhere you want, but will be responsible for positioning yourself to your gateway/declared U.S base location on your own time using your own means.

Exactly, you can live anywhere you want. Currently HNL is not a gateway. That may change in the new cba, we'll have to wait a few more months to find out.
There are guys that live there and they make it work. The Qantas trips have layovers in HNL. Pilots "based" in ANC and JFK bid on those trips.
Good luck! Rumors are hiring will continue next year.
