TF Green Airport saw passenger levels shrink back 5 years in the latest reporting for February. Although it wasn't singled out, SWA seems to be the big loser here. Jetblue's growth at BOS is most likely the culprit, and their recent announcement of Portland will probably be a double whammy for Manchester in the future.

IMO, this is indeed an interesting phenomenon.....

Is it JB or is it just that all the carriers have lowered fares? I don't think a one month anomaly means much.

INDY was in PVD. From what I hear they had pretty good loads to Dulles. The Washington Market for PVD is pretty good.

I know on the USAir side the mid day hub aircraft have turned into RJ's. They are often oversold and over weight. I know the gate agents get real frustrated.

AA also cut a flight from PVD-DFW non stop. The inside scoop was they needed the aircraft in LUV to compete with SWA. The agents reported an 87% load factor on that one. I am sure the customers went to BOS for the non-stop flight.

This is all "Shuttle Bus News" We all share a bus from the parking lot to the terminal in PVD. A great base but the politics in the city against epansion and the cut backs to RJ's have hurt the airport.

Sorry lowecur, but I think this might be a factor in the change in enplanements in PVD, not necessarily a drop in SWA enplanements. This could explain why SWA wasn't singled out...

I wouldn't go rushing so fast to give the credit to Jetblue out of Bos. In 2005 HFD had 7.4 million pax, a record. That explains where alot of the PVD O&D went. Does jetblue service HFD? SWA does.

Yahoo maps driving distance
PVD-BOS = 60 miles
PVD-HFD = 78 miles

Which do you think is eaiser to get to, and cheaper to park at? Not to mention, no tolls.

Secondly don't worry so much about SWA, take a look at DEN traffic. It was up last year even with the UAL cut backs.

Actually, Hartford is difficult to get to from PVD. Route 6 cuts accross RI and CT. But it is for the most part a 2 lane road with a speed limit of like 40-45 through all the towns.

Hartford is growing well as the folks in south central Mass drive to Hartford instead of Boston.

A small factor could be Regent Air in Worcester MA. They have started service to Florida a few days a week.

It is a busy place here in the Northeast. We could all have 747 service to MCO if we would drive a car more than 45 minutes. I remember in the 80's PVD was just a "Commuter Airport" no direct flights mostly small "prop planes" When I was a kid we did the drive to BOS, 50 minutes, to take Eastern arilines direct to Orlando on the L-10-11.

PVD would have only been a 20 minute ride but the trip back then would have taken twice the time.
