That's not really correct. The profit sharing check given on Feb 14th of next year is NOT affected at all by the new contract. So, you will get an 8.5% raise Jan 1st, and then a larger profit sharing check on Feb 14th, 2013 than you did this year. (more profits this year) Now, the NEXT profit sharing check (Feb 14th of 2014), MIGHT be different. It may be smaller, or it may be bigger, all depending on the profit. This year DL made more, than LAST year. Hopefully that will be the same for next year, and if things go well and better, then the profit sharing may be larger than this upcoming check. In the meantime, there will be a nice 8.5% raise Jan 1st, and that also helps with the DC fund contribution, and even the profit sharing since that is based off of your W2.
