I'm new to jumpseating. Just wondering if you are placed in first class, is it courtesy to not eat the meals and "pig out"?

Or is it like grandma's house, where if you don't eat the food she'll be offended and think you don't like her cooking?

Feel out the FA's. When they come around for your dinner choice order, I ask them if they will have anything left and volunteer to take what is left over. That usually puts you in good standing and you end up getting quite a spread including apps etc. that would normally not be given out on the tray.

And make it a 'double on the rocks!

In all seriousness, if you're been placed in first class due to the generousity of the cabin and/or captain, be as gracious and gracious can be, since you're simply happy to be on board going home or going to work.

Listen to IAHERJ...that's good advice.

A couple of useful comments to toss out when jumpseating in First:

1. "You must be new. That service kinda sucked."
2. "Have you heard the one about the difference between a bowling ball and a flight attendant?"
3. "Is it true all you guys are gay?"
4. "Hey! How come he got linen and I got his crappy paper towel?"
5. "You should interview with my company. We don't require weigh-in's either!"
6. "I'm not wearing underwear!"
7. "I bet you were cute 40 years ago."
8. "Sheesh! You sound like my third wife...she was a bossy flight attendant too!"
9. "How 'bout a bottle of the red for my layover?"
10. "Hey Toots! Put my bag in the overhead, 'kay?"

why should you get first when most passengers hold some sort of elite status?
