Can you be more specific as to where the info is posted? I have a computer systems background, but it's tough to answer this without some detail.

There are a couple of pilot search engines (databases) out there. They've been there for years and have absolutely no privacy protection.

That's exactly what's happening. That information is being pulled off the FAA's airman database. I don't think there's any way to block it because it's probably considered public domain. Every time you renew your medical, you're involuntarily updating these records if I'm not mistaken. We pilots have very little privacy these days

You know I think these might be coming from the FAA. I seem to remember a few years ago, them sending me a letter, offering the ability to 'opt out' of their publically available database. I do remember doing it. I just went to landings now, and wasn't able to find myself in the database, but did find a few friends of mine there. Get in touch with the Feds at Oklahoma City at the Certification Branch, and see what they have to offer as a way out. I'm preyty sure it can be done. I'll look into it now for ya.

Here I was able to find a lot more about myself. It had my certificates, types, medical etc etc. However it did not have my address. That must've been what they gave me the option to 'opt out' of some time ago. Down the page they have instructions on how to write to them and have at least your address removed from public view. Now the whole darned lot of us can be downloaded into anyones computer. Get those address removed at least, ASAP. And if anyone out there is still using their SSN as a pilot certificate number...seriously consider changing this also. You just have to request it with the certification branch, not a too bigger deal, but well worth the security.

You CAN block your address (mine is blocked), I will try to find a link to the place to put this request in to the FAA (I am on a slow dial-up and a Filet Mignon is calling my name)...

Also if your Pilot Certificate is your SSN, change it immediately, especially if you fly Internationally and use ICAO Flight Plans because your pilot certificate number ends up on the flight plan.

I just checked the landings.com sight and it didn't register me on a database search. I have changed my FAA certificate number and I'm sure if there was ever an option to keep out of a public database I checked that box.

My goal in life is to be a " blank ". Anyone remember the show Max Headroom that was on TV many years ago ? Unfortunately to be a true " blank " one would have to quit flying and not have any kind of government issued certificate or license.

anyway "herewegoagain" thanks to you i was able to go to the web sites you provided and was able to print the change of number form .....and .....also when i went to the faa site and requested privacy from the database ....the faa did also reply very quickly

I was thinking of checking #2 above but first I have a question: At the end of 2. above it states that "I will not furnish my SSN on any future applications for Airman or Medical certificates." What number DO you submit? The new certificate number? I haven't changed my Cert. number yet but I'm going to. I have a medical this summer and just wanted to know WHAT I should put down when they ask for my Soc. #?

At my last medical I left the SSN blank. Took some convincing the receptionist that it wasnt needed.
