I am trying to get out of the 121 business and looking at the Portland Oregon area. I was hoping anyone might have any insight into a corportate gig out there. I was even thinking about Ameriflights 421 out of PDX.

Been 121 flying for 7 years now and it is time to move on. Pay is not the only thing I am worried about. What is more important to me is an enjoyable workplace for me to hang my hat.

Thanks

Hey!................Some dude,

You're moving in on my territory. And by your profile, you look like you would make a better candidate than myself for a corporate job. Anyone with some inside info help a couple of brothers out.

By the way, where are you at some dude.

Yeah me three. Keep me in the loop on pdx jobs.
thanks

Geez people....

How am I suppose to get a leg up in this industry when all you whipper snappers are trying to one up me.

OK..OK...anybody know how to hook 3 brothers up.

Aero Air is out of HIO with Air Ambulance / Charter stuff. There is also Flightcraft at PDX. There are other operators at HIO but I can't remember their names. NIKE has their 2 G-Vs based there. Intel Runs a corporate shuttle with ERJs but I'm pretty sure they don't operate it directly. That's about all I can think of now. Good luck to you three.

Actually Nike has 1 G-V and 1 Falcon 2000EX. There is a couple of other Falcon's based out in the Portland area I hear.

I also heard there was supposed to be a Citation Sovereign based there, but unfortunately it got sold...

Portland's problem is that there are not many corporate headquarters there, and thus not many corporate flight departments. A side effect is not many individuals who made lots of money off IPOs and thus have airplanes.

If you want to fly corporate and live in the Pacific NW, try Seattle. There is *much* more going on up there. There are quite a few experienced guys in Portland looking for corporate jobs at the moment.

Premier Jets is a big one out of HIO........

That is if you truly want to scape the bottom of the pile. Nothing like flying a lear to HI  . Do not try and quit and go to work for competion either. You must sign a no compete clause for 150 miles. The owner of this ops is so bitter that he will litigate you until you run out of money.

Seems odd you would be asking about Ameriflight. They are not a corporate flight department or passenger charter operation (yet, I hear when Check 21 takes effect they may change over some of their Lears.) I believe they are 402s out of PDX. AMF is the largest part 135 all freight operator in the country.

I flew for AMF for nearly 15 years, based out of BUR-ONT-LAX, DEN, PHX, OAK and SLC. As far as freight operators go, I have my bias but I think they are the best. Some will likely not agree. Eventually even I had to move on to other things though.

Good Luck.

There's a bunch of corporate stuff going on out of Salem, too. I can't tell you who all the companies are, but it might be worth checking around there.

I didn't see much in Salem when I was there last year. However, they may have been hiding it from me. Evergreen's corporate headquarters is at MacMinnville and Dell Smith has a Gulfstream and a Lear based there the last I knew, which was a long time ago. Eugene and Medford have a number of charter outfits but I don't know about corporate.

I think there is a Falcon 2000 at Salem, are there any other jets there?

Now, Evergreen, there's a quality corporate job for you!

G100 Unless they've changed in the last year Nike has a G-V and a G-IV. I think even Phil Knight would have a hard time getting a job (if he was a pilot) in that flight department. They do have the coolest paint jobs of any corporate jet I've seen.

Premier Jets is downsizing. Do not go there.

Aero Air occasionaly hires people. They are actually a very large company and operate jets for a number of corporotions up and down the west coast.

FlightCraft has an operation at PDX.

Evergreen has a G-II (maybe III) and a Lear out of McMineville. I don't think anybody could get those jobs who hasn't been with the company a long long time.

Warn (makes winches and stuff for 4X4's) has a flight department at Aurora.

Not trying to throw a wet blanket on your hopes to work at Portland. But the competition is high and choices low, unfortunately people have decided Portland is a good place to live.

The reality is it rains all the time. Go back to California!

What, flying a non-RVSM G-II, in a constant fuel emergency, to all parts of the uncivilized world with you own criptograph ... what is not quality about that!

So...what...they're going from 2 airplanes down to 1? Can't get much smaller than that!

I worked at Aero Air, I don't work there now, that tells you something. Portland is a pretty small market, but a nice place to live. I commute to and from Seattle.

Evergreen upgraded to a GIV a couple of years ago. I still wouldn't want to work there, though. And, unless things have changed, it is not hard to get hired over there. They have a revolving door-- but expect to get paid very little and worked like a dog.

This is true. I used to work there. They have a lot of customers that they manage, however, most of the aircraft are based in other states. I have a lot of contacts in the Portland/Hillsboro area, and it's still tough.

You can always give Global Aviation a call in HIO. They manage some decent aircraft, as well.

You pretty much have to wait until someone in the flight department dies to get a chance to work at one of the two or three decent coporate flight departments.

I used to work at Premier Jets as well. It's a rediculous place to be. When the owner's time is up, I want to go to the funeral just to see how many people AREN'T there.

Flightcraft doesn't seem to be hiring right now. When they do hire, it really is a pretty good place to work, all things considered.

So, what you're saying is that there aren't any decent jobs open at the moment in the Portland area. That is what I have seen lately.

Aero Air is OK, like any other management company it depends on the client and the situation. There are some great accounts there and some lousy ones. Then, there is the air ambulance stuff, which is about the same as most air ambulance operations.

I used to fly the Lear for Del out of MMV, they frequently have openings. At least they they used to have a pretty high turn over.

How about some info on Flightcraft? What are they like to work for?

I like NIKEs decision to get the 2000EX ... especially the paint. I make sure I take photos of it when it comes here to SDL. Only two of my pics of the 2000 on A.net though.
