Your friend was misinformed Kilroy, single base @ PO and it's JFK. Might change after the merger, but only JFK for now.

As far as the french are concerned, they usually blow smoke up their own arse :)

Conditions at both carriers: best deal for all would be Atlas hourly pay with PO work rules.......

Also watch FOCUS (startup), they should be getting 354MC and 535MC shortly with bases on East and West Coast (you won't need to go to Stanstead). Good to see the competition growing! Amazing though that AAWH find themselves competing with carriers using the aircraft they let go: 922 and 923FT for Tradewinds, and the above mentioned with Focus......... (let's not forget Kalitta either, lol)

Holey Crap! Is there talk of a merger between Polar and Atlas? I must have stayed out of the kitchen for too long! I will keep the faith and hope to hear something!
Peace Out Ya'll!!!!!!

On the contrary, I think it's great!! Now the labor dept has to deal with ONE BIG GROUP of angry pilots instead of 2 divided ones........and it's a brand new ball game, maybe also a brand new contract good for both pilot groups with the best of both conditions in one bag........

Let's wait and see :):)

Keeping the FAITH

It's a mixed bag... The last group of new hires had various experience levels... Quite a few were from commuter backgrounds.. It all depends on what the HR people consider "COMPETITIVE" as determined in last monday's board meeting...Keep plucking away, thats all I can recommend

What are the probabilities of newhires getting on the 400 vs. the 200 in the future (say next 6 months)? Is there a seat-hold on the 200? In other words, how quickly could you get off one fleet and jump to another (say from 200 to 400)?

400 vs Classic

It all depends on poss. currently available. In the past Polar has run a class of 400 drivers followed by a Classic class. The last two classes that were hired, everyone got on the Classic. The pay is the same.. The Classic has more variety in the schedule, However the 400 is a NICE AIRPLANE..If you get on the 400, you will mostly hold a cruise pilot slot...Not too bad though, you get paid to SLEEP in the BUNK..There is a seat lock of 750 hrs. before you can bid the other type. At an average of 55 hrs of hard time a month, you'r loocking at 1 1/2 years to transition..Not too bad, time goes by fast in this business.

Yep No Dosing for dollars in the -200. However, the F/O position on the Classic is the easiest job in the fleet. It also has "Voice Activated" Auto Throttles....hehehehe!:)

Here's one for you, UPS senior management said recently that UPS was not finished with aquiring additional freight forwading companies, and there are rumors here of UPS again interested in Polar/Atlas. They are probably most interested in Polar's route authority and the -400s.

I got one for you, Its old news and its a broken record. I'll believe it when I see it.

After seeing what UPS did to the challenge pilots I don't know if that is something the Polar or Atlas guys would want.

AA

UPS won't be able to do to Polar/Atlas what it did to challenge. We're a whole different animal. Its not as simple as just taking route authority, its a lot more complicated than that.

Oh well, like you said, Its just a RUMOR.

Man, I think that would be a bad deal if UPS bought Polar or Atlas. There needs to be competition out there to keep all of these companies honest! I hope that is just a rumor and that Polar and Atlas merge and become one BIG company. I think that they could really do some damage (as in market share) to the other companies out there! Hopefully, I will hear something from them SOON!!!

It's nice to know that you are all in favor of a bottom feeder taking market share from two of the dwindling number of airlines worth working for ( FedEx and UPS ). I'm sure you are all in favor of your RJs taking flying away from mainline. It's amazing now how many pilots, mostly at the regionals or bottom feeders, that are actually joyful at the bad economic news hitting the mainlines. I hope you enjoy flying that RJ, for it will be all you will see for many, many years.

UPSer,

I feel your pain, man. Your'e like a Kerry voter. You just can't get over it. You can't get over AAWWH (Atlas and Polar) getting more route structure, more market share, and the fact that the FedUPS suit can't ruin DHL's business, so you resort to calling us names.

You seem to have the "woe for us attitude," not addressing the real problem. Obviously, you can't see that the economy is booming for cargo, and there is enough for all of us. If you lose any of the share, it's not our fault. Try your marketing department. We don't have catchy little phrases like, "what blue and white can do for you." Our marketing department, however, is out shaking the heck out of the bushes for share. Between Atlas and Polar, we have a great reputation with customers. I wish that Uncle Sam didn't have me for this busy season, as it is going to be a busy and fun one, which I will miss.

You, also, seem to have a personal problem with the professionals at Atlas and Polar. Calling us Bottom Feeders. Well, I wouldn't call you a name. In fact, I would probably offer to buy you a beer. You see, I am able to separate what my company or your company does from how professional pilots should interact. I could say some really mean things about UPS and FedEX, but I am above that as a professional.

I hope you have a busy and fun season.
