It's not like PCL doesn't have the money to pay it's employees. In 2006 it's operating margin was 15.5%. That's absolutely ridiculous that they have drawn out there contract negotiations the way that they have. Compare all that to Republic's 18.5% operating margin and hopefully the the guys over there can negotiate a better contract in the upcoming years as well. Corporate greed has become criminal the last few years.
BINGO!

Well-said.

Would you rather have in the CRJ left seat:

- an off the street captain with 4000 hours TT and 1500 hours PIC turboprop

- a pinnacle FO with 2500 hours TT inclcuding 1500 hours in the RJ

If it was up to PT the Clown, he would take Option 3: a monkey in the left seat.

That way, he could pay the monkey in bananas, and not have to give him an "over expensive, non-competitive" $55/hr of a captain salary.

If the law allowed, I bet PT the Clown would be the first to put monekys in the cockpit... well, second... JO would be first, and closely following suit would be PT the Clown. :smash:

I just quit. Where the hell is my severance package in bananas?:angryfire

Captain K. Rool (Mr. PT the Clown himself).... STOLE THEM!

You, (Donkey Kong), must track 'PT the Clown' down and face him with the help of Diddy (the F/O) and Dixie (the F/A)!

:D

Not trying to stir the pot on anything here....
Just an interesting observation. For those that didn't know, AirTran (the name at least) was started by Mesaba as their holdings company, with Mesaba's profits no less, just like MAIR.

weren't you off the street???

So who would you like to see in the left seat of an RJ... besides mainline pilots because we know that kind of flying is below them
Minimum 3,000 hours Total Time, 1,000 Jet PIC, previous EFIS and FMS experience (preferred), previous Part 121 experience (preferred).

Basically, someone who comes from a CRM background, can be trained in just the aircraft and operations specifics, and who won't be a danger to themselves or others in a jet aircraft.

PCL mins for upgrade are pretty spot-on, TM may have been many things, but he wasn't an idiot.

3,500 hours with 1,000 turbine and/or 3,000 hours total time with at least 500 hours in the aircraft is plenty low enough.

I don't see what's wrong with the minimums right now at pinnacle. I wouldn't suggest lowering them by any means, but if you look at most of the other regionals out there, many are the same (if not lower)!

I think this is really good news for all. The regionals can't get qualified pilots. The FAA says they are issueing fewer pilot certificates (people don't want to get into the industry). Granted, things change slower than we'd like, but management is going to have to make some changes for the better. Pinnacle pilots may be the first to experience something positive, but I think the market is going to speak on this. Oh, and AirTran pays about $10,000 a month for 7th year captain, that doesn't sound very regional to me.
