So Broke...

I hope your not the guy I spoke to up in ELM.

If you are, we told you then.. it is not typical of that individual. I gave you wrong e-mail addy, I have the right one if you want it..

regardless... a bad day at an interview is not the end of the world.. we all have had them and I am sure more than a few of us will still continue to have them.

No Names

IP, the original post has been deleted. Now if 350driver would be so kind as to edit his/her post of the guys name, this will be a more civil forum.

I do not believe it is in any way professional to mention real names here in this forum, thats JMHO. The interview topics can be discussed, if one dares, w/O this. Careers are at stake and false perceptions can be very difficult to overcome once a bad rap has been established or perpetuated by others.

I would recomend that this young man address "Resume Writter" here on this forum as well as all the good information already in abundance here on interview do's and dont's....

I too have had a few interviews of late, many I felt I did well at, and yet I have not landed my job either. Ironically the one interview I knew I was not going to be hired before I left the building, it was at Pinnicale as well..
but I have been learning alot in the process, and its true many many things are out of your control with the most frustrating thing being that you will never get any feedback from an employer on why you were not hired. Lots of competition out there, just keep networking and keep moving.

Good luck

Good Luck and keep on interviewing.....

So this is not ok for me to mention this guy BUT it is "ok" for this captain to belittle, call names, put down this applicant time after time during the interview prior to the HR lady entering the room? I think not....

No...it's not OK from my standpoint to treat a job applicant disrespectfully. The concern I have is that this is a typical interview tactic that comes up frequently and needs to be dealt with properly if you want the job. Sounds like they were doing a "Good cop/Bad cop" thing to me. Anyway, if he wants a second interview after 6 months or whenever they'll talk to him again, blasting the interviewer's name on this forum won't help his case much.

I mostly skimmed the thread and didn't realize that the name was still there.

And I do agree, that post is inappropriate (this means YOU, 350driver). Even if you were PERSONALLY subjected to this, I don't think it's too smart to "name names" on a public forum.

I am not and have never flown for Pinnacle enroute to where I am at present day, obvious to most posters who frequent this board and know me personally. I recieved a PM from So Broke explaining the story and exactly what happened during his interview experience, and it is my opinion that he was shafted and treated extremely unfairly for no reasons that were obvious. I stand behind him 100% and feel for him, like it or not.

Yep, hit "ignore", that's the answer.

Just because this individual told you a story, you believe it to be true automatically? The fact that he had to PM you with the story indicates to me that you don't know him, and therefore have no way of knowing his TRUE motivation behind plastering this story on here. Seems legit, sure. But... Possibly not. You also hit the nail on the head when you said:

"it is my opinion that he was shafted and treated extremely unfairly FOR NO REASONS THAT WERE OBVIOUS" (my caps)

You don't know what really happened there, and So Broke's version of the story (whatever that story is, I still don't have any details) may not be correct.

So... Someone you don't know told you a story. You accept it as being totally factual. You then continue to do what THE ORIGINAL POSTER EVEN FIGURED OUT WAS WRONG. Which is, specifically, using the name of the interviewer and calling him names (again, on the basis of hearsay from someone not personally known to you). Whether or not you went through Pinnacle to get where you are, it's definitely not cool of you...

Poor judgment, poor taste. Nice work.

And I do happen to like that it's still a "free world", your abuse of it notwithstanding. Hitting "ignore" will hide your posts from ME but not the other 10,000+ members and countless visitors.

FWIW I have no connection to Pinnacle, either. I, too, have had a couple of annoying interview experiences but never felt compelled to say "Captain So-And-So was a d1ck to me in the interview, even if it was deserved. I share stories like this with friends, possibly even in a PM if I feel like it's appropriate, but not on the public board.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I agree that the captain's name should not be posted, especially since we know only one side of the story and it's vague, at best.

This is a good example of where the moderators need to step in and rectify this mistake.

Someone at the office downloaded it and made it the desktop image. When I "woke" the computer one night after a long flight, I nearly had a heart attack. Then I thought, "Hey, that's exactly how I feel." The rest, as they say, is history.

Now if your avatar and my avatar got together, can you imagine what that would look like? The horor... The horor...

Thanks... The thought of the product of that union will now keep me up all night... :D

so broke but, not without hope!

so broke,

if I had a nickel for every rejection that i've had interviewing for a job, i'd have about 45 cents.

any way, when you interview , you're getting exposed to the pilot culture and sometimes it may just not be a good fit.

Things always work out in the end....the way they're suppose to. sounds like since it was first, it s a wee bit painful...

get over it, go on to the next one. read up on technique ask the the ol salts. drink a pitcher a beer!

good luck

That is definitely one truism about working at PCL - it truly is a melting pot of a LOT of different people, backgrounds, cultures, and is one of the harder tests I can remember of being able to fit into ANY situation with another pilot.

Sorry Broke that you feel you got shafted; same thing happened to me at the United interview: the Captain was congratulatory and very positive when he walked me out and I thought I aced it and realized a few weeks later when I got the "bad" letter, that I probably hadn't paid as much attention to the HR lady as I should have. Lesson learned, and who knows why things work out the way they do, maybe you'll be better off in the long run somewhere else. Doesn't help now, but maybe later you'll appreciate the experience.

Dear 350, I understand your irritation on behalf of another aviator and applaud your support of his situation, however there are limits to what kind of actions are appropriate on an open forum to show that support. Posting that Captain's name is beyond that line by a large margin; I know who he is, we've seen each other and talked before about different things, even had our differences of opinion about company matters, but I know him to be a stand-up guy and I don't think anyone at PCL believes it happened exactly the way it was originally posted, and to continue to leave that pilot's name on the internet, especially when you did not personally witness the incident, is neither the professional nor ethically correct road to take.

I'm sure that you don't give a rat's whether any of us here have any respect for you or not, but please think about the professional ethics of what you posted and out of your own self-repect, please remove his name from your post.

Bad interviews

I recently had a "bad" interview experience also. My first Airline interview. I have always considered myself fairly skilled at job interviews in my previous field sales/marketing.

After confessing that my greatest weakness (one of her questions) was that I got stressed out if I didn't do something right the first time, the Captain GRILLED me, rapid fire style.

When I didn't know a couple of answers I should have, she really leaned on me. I stayed calm, but was a ball of nerves and it was obvious. I think she was testing my weakness to see how I handled "screwing" up the first portion of an interview. She got quite abrasive and insulting, but I think I handled it O.K.

She was quite skilled in her interviewing techniques. She exploited my weakness, and made me realize that I need to work more to overcome them. Oh well! prepare better and on to the next one.

I've NEVER blown an interview before, but this one was off the scale. The other interviewees were practically high-fiving each other because the captain they were with just asked 2-3 standard questions and filled the balance of time talking about his plane! (a Mooney) I left there KNOWING I lost the job. But 4 days later got the good letter. Go fiqure. Hopefully your dream airline job is not your first interview.

Good luck!!

Just for old times sake since where on a similiar subject

John Dresser sucks! What an @sshole! F*ck COEX and their
sh!tty interview process!

:D

That takes me back to the old days

ROFLMAO! I interviewed there once also... got up in the middle of the interview, said "Thank you very much for your time but I'm no longer interested in the position", and walked out.

I wish I'd had a camera to capture for posterity the look on his face... would have made a great avatar! ;)
