In all seriousness, what is preventing FedEx from doing some outsourcing? Do they have any type of scope protections/contract language/etc to prevent that?

I know they already have some outsourcing done with the FedEx painted Caravans.

The holes in this story are too many to mention!!!!!

Between JetBlue, Republic, Air Canada, and other foreign carriers.... When is the next open 170/190 delivery slot again? Believe it when it's parked on the ramp, I guess.

FedEx pilots must fly anything with more than 2 seats.

I don't care where you spend your high speeds "AT", just make sure you keep it low key until they find this guy that was out doing the "lords work".

Police investigate attack at New Bedford gay bar

By Ray Henry, Associated Press Writer | February 2, 2006
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. --Police were searching for an 18-year-old man who allegedly attacked patrons of a gay bar early Thursday with a handgun and a hatchet, wounding at least three people in an apparent hate crime.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Jacob D. Robida, of New Bedford, seeking to charge him with assault, attempted murder and civil-rights violations.

Police Capt. Richard Spirlet said Robida walked into Puzzles Lounge in the city's North End around midnight, armed with a handgun and "some sort of cutting instrument."

Robida is known to New Bedford police because he graduated in 2001 from the city's Junior Police Academy, according to acting Police Chief David Provencher. The "boot camp" program is designed to teach discipline to 12- to 14-year-olds.

The bartender, who asked to be identified only by his first name, Phillip, because of concerns about his safety while the attacker was being sought, told The Associated Press that the man ordered a drink and asked if Puzzles was a gay bar.

He was told it was, then finished his drink and ordered another, Phillip said. He walked to the back of the bar where two men were playing pool.

He shoved one of the men to the ground, according to Phillip, then pulled a hatchet from his hooded sweat shirt and began swinging it at the man's head, cutting him. The second pool player intervened, swinging at the assailant with his pool cue, but the man fended him off, the bartender said.

Several other patrons tried to stop him, and at some point the man was tackled to the ground and the hatchet flew across the floor, Phillip said. He then pulled out a handgun and shot the two pool players, according to the bartender. He fired a bullet at a patron who was leaving the bathroom, hitting him in the chest.

"He was shooting at everyone," Phillip said.

Some patrons left through the front door while the altercation was taking place at the rear of the bar.

The attacker then shoved the bartender before leaving the building and running up the street, Phillip said. Moments later, the police arrived.

According to a court filing attached to the warrant, a woman in the bar recognized Robida as a current or former student at New Bedford High School. School officials declined to confirm whether Robida was enrolled there.

Robida was described as a short, stocky white man with dark hair. He was last seen driving a green 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and is considered armed and dangerous, according to Spirlet.

Phillip said the attacker was wearing all black and that he left behind the hatchet, as well as a machete that he did not see used.

According to the police affidavit, officers went to Robida's home and spoke to his mother, Stephanie Oliver. She said her son came home around 1 a.m., bleeding from the head, then left again.

The officers went to his bedroom and found what they described as "Nazi regalia" and anti-Semitic writings on the wall, according to the affidavit.

Oliver declined to comment Thursday to The Associated Press through a family friend who answered the door at their home.

Two of the injured people were taken to Boston hospitals, and a third was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

They were identified by Spirlet as Robert Perry of Dartmouth, Alex Taylor of Fairhaven, and Luis Rosado of New Bedford. Their conditions were unknown.

Puzzles is popular with the local gay community and is listed on several Web sites offering resources to gays and lesbians.

Empire Air flies some of those

Several of the operators do, they were meant to be one for one replacements for the Fokker 27. So if there's a FedEx feeder operating Fokkers, they are probably going to be getting ATR's as they come out of conversion.

The last time there was a discussion about the ATR's and FedEx "scope", I believe the MTOW weight mentioned as a limit, would include up to ATR 72 sized aircraft. I could be wrong, but that was what was discussed last time this issue came up.

There's also been some speculation that operators may be getting Beech 1900's to fly single pilot 135. But that's only a rumor that's been floating around recently, nothing has been confirmed on that subject.

He must have meant any JET with two seats... Mountain Air Cargo has some too.

Unfortunately, electronic type cannot exude sarcasm. It was meant as a joke. I don't think seats are a factor in their scope since they don't fly passengers. I would think Weight would be more of an issue.

When the company came to us with a contract proposal, it cut out hotels for some or all CDO's. This is because they want to have cargo CRJ's is some out stations that don't have FedEX direct to MEM. You would fly from your hub with pax in the evening, swap to a cargo CRJ, go to MEM for the sort, fly back to the outstation and swap again and fly pax back to the hub in the morning. Thus you would not need hotels for CDO's.

Isn't flying for FedEx and being business partners pretty much the same thing?

A few problems with that:

1. The useful load of a CRJ is pretty low

2. That's a pretty pricey plane to keep sitting around all day for a single out and back 5x a week

3. NW ASA does not differentiate between pax and cargo--unless you propose these to be NW coded flights feeding FDX?

4. FDX ALPA scope would not allow it

--which is not to say that PT hasn't stained his sheets at the prospect of doing so.

1. If they removed the interior, you could probably take 10K - 12K pretty easily depending on the fuel load.

2. Not sure how much a well used -200 is, but I bet prices are dropping every day.

3. The ASA is always subject to change, especially now. It could be operated on a seperate certificate too.

4. What specifically does the FDX scope allow? FedEx is also in contract talks, so this is also subject to change.

I will admit that it is a pretty creative plan, just as long as I don't have to fly those trips.

The a/c would probably have to be modified to ease load and unload so that it could be done in a timely manner. As it exists there would only be time forone short flight a day as the rest of the time would be spent putting packages on and taking them off! It was bad loading the navajo, even the metro's had pallettized loads.

This is so far out speculation......

What I do see is a regional trying to get out of the grips if NWA. With A/C not owned by NWA. if they could find another business partner to help finance A/C, why not. If this new partner had a special interest that 9e could help keep alive (MEM) with its new ticket. I don't see 9e ever carrying cargo for fed-x. I could see fed-x helping 9e with financing of new A/C 70/90 seats on a new ticket.
All speculation of course.

IMHO, FedEx could give three sh!ts about 9E. There's no way in hell they'll provide or help with financing to 9E for purchasing anything...

workinstiff,
As I said complete speculation, but its always good to hear from someone that is in upper management at fed-x, thanks

As I stated, what I said was completely my opinion. But some speculation is so far in left field, it becomes almost funny...

Get a grip guys. Why would fedex waste time, effort and money on a piece of crap airplane? They own their boeings, which were made 20-40 years ago and are still running strong and not going away anytime soon. So they burn more gas, big deal. Also, why would they waste their time financing a regional airline?? Absolutely no upside to that as they make more profit in 1 md11 flight as pinnacle does in a quarter.

Go back to speculating/dreaming, it's the only hope you have. You've already undercut 1 part of the industry, ain't going to happen again.
