You got that right! Oh well, there's always the suggestion box for next year's model.

Anyway, TonyC, an Electronic Flight Bag is just around the corner. I flew with a Captain last month who ran into PB is Standards and they are shooting for next spring. He said the software has been bought and they're deciding on the hardware and how to mount it in the cocpit. I'll believe it when I see it, but they did start using guinea pigs in the sim to see how it well it works.

I think a computer program that replaces airline executives and can produce a balance sheet that is not negative would be far more beneficial than a computer that replaces pilots.

It would do little house keeping chores, eliminate bonus packages and delete golden parachutes -- just for starters. Just think -- whenever a hacker discoveres a bug in the executive computer the program could generate a patch and plug all the holes. Every year we could issue an upgrade that passengers would pay for through a surcharge. We could also charge for virus, spam and spyware protection.

Captains could purchase an add-on that would guarantee pensions and job security. First Officers would be eligible for the upgrade overnight package, etc.

The Harvard MBA would quickly become a thing of the past and airline stocks would be the new hot commodity.

The potential is priceless.

PS. It has already been proven that more pilots will be required in the future as computer programs improve. Just look at how many people are on the flight deck of the Enterprise. The captain has a super chair (that's much more comfortable), he doesn't even have to wear a hat and the only memory item on the checklis is "engage", at the appropriate time. The computerized future is bright for pilots. It's the MBA's that are in real danger.

I heard they were trying a simulation of automated ATC. Anybody else hear this?

Amen Brotha o' Sista to the E-Flight Bag! But, it's pretty much already here. Just lotsa $$$$$$$$$ right now. Soon itll'be ops normal to have E-Pubs for any appproach. As for the E-Pilot, forget it!!!!!!!!!!!! Cargo doesn't care until it crashes down in a fiery inferno in ther middle of the public. Pilots will prevail!!!!
