So here I am on the road in a hotel room. After the 5am wake up after two consecutive 3am wake ups I'm not exactly in the mood to get out and go for a run. The local place to eat had a pub menu, not exactly a healthy one either. I got an hour road ride in last night but it was all I could handle after 5 hours sleep and a 12 hour work day plus getting ready for this 4 day stint on the road.

Heres the catch. I used to be a really fit guy until I started working as a profesional pilot. During high school and college I raced road and mountain bikes. Mountain Bikes at the Semi Pro level for a short time. I'm not just into cycling either. I hike and backpack a lot, surf and run a little too.

Now its early calls to work, life in a hotel and a not a lot of weight gain yet but certainly some. It comes off when the airplane is down or I get some time off but here is my question:

Is there some flight department or pilot group that actually cares about fitness?

When I look around at pilots as a group it kind of scares me. Are there any employers out there who understand the value of fit employees? Generally fit people respond to stress well and have more energy than an out of shape individual. Plus fit groups of people don't cost as much in terms of sick time used and health problems later in life. I'm a fairly young guy now but when I see some 50+ years old pilot sleeping in the pilots lounge with a huge stomach it doesn't exactly help me to feel comfortable about my future.

When I am out and about on long trips away from home I I go Female Human Hunting and find me a Female Human Play Gym. Some of them can be a real work out!!!

Go for a 3 mile jog. Depending on how fit you are now it could take between 20-30 minutes (maybe longer if your really a fat ass. You asked, so at least your concerned so you get one bonus point)

My point being, is that it doesn't take 2 hours everyday to get/stay healthy. Try little things like walking a little further, taking the stairs instead of elevator, try playing with kids for a little bit. I can't think of the website, but I'm sure there are a few out there that give more suggestions that you can do in everyday life that will help.

Good luck.

I have the same thoughts when I go to work too.

I try and run and work out while Im at work but its tough.

When I not working, its easier to excercise

Werd!! I try and work out at least an hour or two every day off that I get...You can only do so much on the bike and treadmill at the hotels
