This could be a problem since we spend all 40 hours in the sim practiceing VFR straight and level.

I wonder whats going on up in SBY? Havent been used on the past 3 reserve days of my buildup, got six more coming up in a row, still nothing. Properly staffed?
 
It almost seems like it... I've been checking to see my phones not on silent mode for te last 4 days.
 
Overstaffed, maybe?
Does flying pick up a little in the spring? Maybe March for us in the pool...

up here at MDT, i have not sat a reserve day the last 2 months, last month i had 4 reserve days and was used on all, plus they tried to JR man me 3 times in the last 2 months, thank god for caller id......they also make our captains fly F/O trips all the time.....
 
I think they've had a lot of medical leaves, sick calls and vacations out of there. Been flying with a lot of out of base FAs also.

I can vouch for the kid's attitude. He sat up front watching and learning (bad habits of course.....) during that ferry flight. I'm sure he's just fine on the line.
 
Got a line check today, but forgot to ask when the next class is scheduled. I've heard from other check airmen that Feb. or March is likely, so I don't have an official answer.

At any rate, I doubt you'll be sitting on the couch much longer. We've had a few people head for the door for better places or retirements lately.

On the same note, be careful what you wish for. This place ain't the Taj Mahal, but if approached correctly can be a good place to work. When you do get here, bid the base you want to work out of. Not what you think will get you the most flying. You'll get burned out soon enough of reserve, deadheading, rescheduling, etc. and being in a good base can save your bacon when you're ready to take the crash axe to something.

Since when do check airmen know about hiring? I remember back in September when Middleton and Hillman were spreading the rumor about 240 new hires, 20 a month for the next 14 months. They hired 14, 3 washed out, and the hiring frenzy was over.

And what about the budget? They said the training department was alloted enough money for 20 new hires, 10 upgrades, and 20 CQs a month. Obviously that money was never used, so where's it at.
 
That was going to happen! We were suppose to add 10 Dash 8's for PHX. With attrition including 10 A/C it was 240. However AWA was unable to shake Mesa's no compete clause and it was smashed. So that ended the PHX Crew base.
Hiring will be slower now. More and More FO's are finding out that PDT's Contract isn't that bad, and they are making more money here then in a RJ somewhere!
 
It's going to be a while, talked to some peopel in SBY the other day and they don't even have a new hire class date in the books!!!! Saw the Ocean of people swimming and waiting to interview, its a LONG list! All pilot hiring is on hold!
