US Airways and Republic Airways Holdings Expand Partnership
Monday July 24, 8:00 am ET
Regional Partner Adds 30 New Embraer 175s to Replace Existing Embraer 145s

TEMPE, Ariz., July 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways (NYSE: LCC - News) and regional airline partner Republic Airways Holdings (Nasdaq: RJET - News) today announced they are amending their existing partnership and adding 30, 86-seat Embraer 175 aircraft to the US Airways Express network. The new Embraer 175s will replace 20 existing 50-seat Embraer 145s operated for US Airways Express by Republic Airways Holdings' Chautauqua Airlines subsidiary. The remaining 10 deliveries can replace other retiring aircraft or be used for limited growth in 2008. The additional aircraft will be used to supplement US Airways’ Charlotte operation and to begin long anticipated service from a Phoenix “reliever airport”, Williams Gateway. Up to 10 175s will begin flying from Gateway in January 2007, to provide daily service to southern California and other destinations in the Western United States. “This is a very exciting time for the Phoenix area and of course everyone here at the US Airways family. We have been waiting for the perfect platform to being service from the East Valley for sometime and we believe the Embraer 175 will give us just that,” said US Airways CEO Doug Parker.

Is this true? Sounds like BS to me... Check out the misspellings above - can't you use the spellcheck? I've been to Gateway and the infrastructure was not too impressive. I don't even think it is too difficult to get to PHX Sky Harbor Airport from the East Valley.

I did see a Dornier 328 prop operating to North Vegas from Williams awhile back (Vision Airlines). Still, this sounds like a wind up to me.... Where would they fly the E175s to from Willie? BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great, now everyone is going to find out about my favorite secret cheap golf course that I play at when I am in Phoenix. That sucks.

I don't know, this was just e-mailed to me. I'm going to ask my friend if he's just screwing with me. I know that there is a totally completed airline terminal out there and has been for some time now. It's a story that comes up every year or so in the papers in Phoenix so who knows. Another interesting devolopment in "As the Embraer Turns" I guess...

Western Skies or Toka?

I personally don't think WGA is ready to handle more passenger traffic. I do think it will happen...just give it 5-10 years.

Rumors around the airport having IWA as a fully functioning reliver by 2010. East Valley Tribune has also published similar stories.

Those folks building their swanky homes in the vicinity are in for a big surprise in a couple years. Pretty quiet environment with the occasional military traffic. Its going to be a busy place real soon.
