Are you kidding me?!? One word: Pizza!
Where else can you get FREE pizza for lunch (not just cheese either...we had THREE different kinds of pizzas!) just for listening to Guido and Rocky explain, during indoc, how we ARE going to contribute "for our own good" . Now if thats not a bene, I dont know what is!

Good point except they never bought pizza or even introduce themselves when I was new hire. I did get a letter a half way through my first year saying that I need to sign off on them taking my dues out of my pay or I'll be in bad standing.

I had no problem signing or joining since it is a close shop but would have appreciated a "We're ALPA and welcome to the company" Wasn't too happy that they took my dues a paycheck early either.

The real question is what value does the 1.95% provide.

Or in your case... what value does $1404 provide as an "independent contractor" when you need to.....

be represented on capitol hill...
protect your medical...
Hire a lawyer to protect your certificate... or job...
None....oh yeah, I do get something to keep in my bathroom by the toilet so the guests are sure to be reminded that I'm a hot shot airline pilot.

I'd take the $1404 over the last 10 years (actually a little less 'cause I'm a lowley regional jet pilot). With compounded interest on modest investments, that would buy one he!! of a lawyer. In the VERY unlikely event I do need one.

Just think of how much that would add up to over the next 19 years (24 once the age rule changes). But to understand that I guess you'd have to understand compunded interest and all.....

The biggest perk is getting to attend LEC and MEC meetings...where the coffee and donuts ("mmmm...donuts!") are free!

Best part: It's never crowded at the meetings!

I always question uber pilots geeks that keep pilot magazines in the bathroom instead of Playboy or Maxim etc.... Given the choice these uber pilots would take the pilot mag and self gratify... very disturbing and disapointing. Naked chicks trump airplanes any day...

One hell of a crappy lawyer.. The fact is lawyers are representing you collectively constantly. the fact that you don't realize this says they are doing a decent job.

And here is the rub (no pun)... the fact that we can show up to work, fly our trip and go home without concern says something... do you think the path was cut by a aero-fairy?

(wait... I did intend to pun)

Do you?

This is a problem the unions/ALPA needs to work on. the intial contact with new members is weak, inaccurate and incomplete....

A valid point....... More volunteers needed! Who's gonna do it!!

good post Rez. Typical leftist, liberal (socialist), mindless drivel....missed the sarcasm (duh!) didn't have ANY thing of substance to counter a point. Oh, nice catch on the misspelling there though. Leave out an "o" and the point is automatically invalid. yawn.

good post Rez.

Thanks...glad you liked it...

Typical non issue orientated polarized right wing Rush mouthpiece. Go on a hyberbole rant and accuse your debater exactly what you are guilty of... SOP..nothing new here..

No problem.... glad I can take care of myself and look out for you... now go back to the bathroom with your aviation mags..

Think about 18 year XJT captains making $113 hr and a 90 hours gurantee, 10% retirement match etc..

Just look at second year pay for CRJs. Pinnacle pilots ($24)get payed less than first year Horizon guys ($29) flying the dash and SkyWest 2nd year brazilia ($27).
You cant only look at companies that are not doing well or have parent companies that are in BK. You think things are bad at Mesa, pinnacle, Mesaba, etc.. when they have a Union? Now use your imagination and try to see what it would be like if there was no union.
