Pensions and Age 60...

If Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) gets the ball rolling and pensions are returned to the respective companies, will all the moronic, a$$hole, greedy, bastards, who pushed so hard to get Age 60 changed, change their position and oppose a change to Age 60? I bet they would!!

You have the right to work anywhere you want, just not in a 121 cockpit. Again, if it's so safe, why is it mandated that one pilot be UNDER age 60? Safety my as*. It's always about the $$$$$$$$$$

You screamer are missing the point . The powers that be tend to govern on trends and how they look to the public. 65 yr old pilots flying into to our airspace and our citizens can't ? In the end that looks stupid and gov/FAA will just jump in line with the rest of the world. BTW TVC was lots for fun for me in 1978 and I loved the beer drinking layovers at the Parker House. For the next yr or so I'll just stick to NRT HNL and AMS or maybe HNK or PVG for shopping as it's easier on me. Then at the ripe old age of 55 it will just be SNA in the summer and BZN in the winter .Thanks

AA, Its really kind of funny in that I've received calls and email from recruiters offering contracts and one of the selling points is the ability to work till 65. So a guy could retire at 60 head to xxx on the 400 or 777 and end up flying approaches into the same airport his own government wouldn't let him work out of. Its absurd and thats why I think it will change. I'm off in 18 months for backcounrty skiing and surfing so I'll pass on any offers...

In many countries, probably the majority that are currently making products which are sold in the US the labor laws are horrible. They include but are not limited to slave labor, child labor, wages which are unlivable, just to name a few. We are talking about the majority of the west, africa and south america. So to use the argument I am seeing here. Because other countries are allowing it to happen then our business and employees are missing out on these excellent opportunities? I mean we could compete much better if we could get rid of the pesky labor laws. So isn't it silly that americans can not use slave labor to produce its goods when other countries can on the same goods being sold in the US. Now does that sound like a sound argument? Yours sounds just as silly.

What I am trying to point out is that some laws make life better. And we as a leading economic power need to lead the way. People knew that they had to retire at 60. People knew that companies go under and they should plan for their retirement. Some people want to change the rules because it serves them.

I never understood the expression "they want to have their cake and eat it too" but I think it would apply in this situation? Im guessing it would be a win/win situation for anyone about to retire. Not that I think it will happen.

They would be able to retire at age 60 with their pension or keep working and get their pension when they retire (possibly at age 65). Im not sure if their pension would continue to accrue after the age of 60, but they would obviously be able to save and contribute to a 401K/IRA.

SS, Well you may be right but I think you are pissing up a rope so to speak and no offense intended . The EU has very progressive labor laws and the first age 60 changes came from Europe so to compare them to the likes of slave labor is grasping for straws. Most of the EU is going from 55 to 65 BTW. I see what you are talking and feel for the Jr guys but thing change all the time and I think this will too. I still remember when my company went from 75 to 85 hrs a month,(cause the Sr guys wanted the money ) had the same effect really and it all worked out in the end
