Heard from a source in the training department that the just-out-of-training class is going on their SOE trips without uniforms as they have yet to be sent out...

1) Has this ever happened before?
2) Is PDT the biggest dog and pony show you've ever seen?

Yes, it's happened before and we were told there was a possibility that people would have to do that when we finish training with CHQ. Although the upgrade time at Piedmont is astronomical and the future looks bleak, you could do much worse than Piedmont.

New hires don't go on SOE, they go on IOE, the initial operating experience. SOE is after a type transition or change in seat.

1)Yes, plenty of times, some guys even get out on the line without all of their uniform.

2) No, PDT is not a dog and pony show at all. A dog and pony show puts on an impressive display as a facade to a meaningless and pitiful show. PDT doesn't even put on a good front.

When I was hired at PDT 6 years ago we were doing SOE not IOE. When I went to Comair 4 years ago it was called IOE. So I am sorry you are wrong on that one. It is the same darn thing though. FYI Comair is putting pilots into IOE without uniforms. The reason is the company that sold us the uniforms went out of business.

Dang, even companies that sell Airline Uniforms are going out of business!!! Too funny!! If that ain't even a bigger hint to stay out of this fukin industry!!!
But then again, with the pay, treatment, and all the bull that comes with our jobs we should be just flying these airplanes in Jeans and Teeshirts!!

I concur. . .the AQP part of it makes it SOE, not IOE. And yes. . .after SOE I flew without epaulets for 3 or 4 months when I was there.

Oh please...

Piedmont isn't the end-all-be-all of airlines, but it isn't that bad either. You obviously never worked at a really crummy airline.

It is what you make it. Relax, put your stuff in with REP like every other FO and enjoy the ride.

Why is it that anything that US Air touches turns to crap? I really can't see how this airline has any customers at all. Its a joke and I'm ashamed to wear a US Air uniform.

Two questions: First, is this a problem with the uniform vendor? (My airline uses the same vendor, so I'm curious.) Second, how is this compliant with security rules? Will they have to leave their hair product at home? I'm being serious.

Piedmont probabally didn't pay their bill at the uniform company. On the plus side at least they wouldn't have to sport the polyester. Yes Piedmont is a crummy airline.

For the answer to your first question, see post #8 in this thread by N813CA:

As for the second question, TSA is allowing liquids and gels, up to 3 oz per container. However, the amount of containers in a carry-on are supposed to fit in a 1-qt plastic bag. There have been reports, though, that the exact size of a "1-qt bag" varies from one TSA agent to another.

That's exactly why I asked: The way I read it, N813CA was referring to Comair. Does Comair use the same vendor that PDT does? If so, I guess they switched vendors since I worked there. We haven't heard of any problems here.

I know about the 100cc limit. You're saying that indeed these pilots will be subject to this limitation, which is what I was wondering. Thanks.

Forget the uniforms. Half of the new hires don't even have their real ID when they start. They still have a temporary ID tmade up from SBY that I could make at home with a typewriter, polaroid, and an index card.

No kidding? I didn't realize it had gotten that bad. We got our ID's the second week of ground. I keep forgetting that was three years ago, though.

"Fake" ID's started appearing when our class went through in March of last year. They made them for us in SBY, on the first day of training. Didn't get the real deal for a few months. But, I did get the blazer and pants fairly quick.

It was from Cintas and works at a bunch of other airlines, too (hint, hint)

I'm expecting a royalty check from you for the use of my phrase...

So what are these people wearing in lieu of uniforms? Parkas permitted? I'd hate to be in SYR without my nice and warm USAir "all" weather coat ;)

Those ID's were so Goofy! Little did the TSA know that the little blue piedmont sticker made the ID official. I always stuck with the crew going through security for fear of being left behind. In CLT however they seemed to be familiar with the "fake" IDs.
